Hello Stranger

"Tonight, we come together as another steps into the light.."

A velvet red curtain opens at the end of the room revealing the youngest Madrigal looking incredibly nervous.

Poor little guy..

Everyone stares expectantly at him. He turns next to him and whispers something that I can't hear from where I am.

A hand reached out to him and he grabs it. The next thing I knew, Mirabel and the young Madrigal were walking together to his door.

I couldn't help but feel bad for both of them, especially Mirabel, this must've been so hard for her.

I catch her glance and gave her a thumbs up and an encouraging smile. She smiles back.

From the corner of my eye, I could feel someone staring at me, but I don't bother looking.

The two cousins got to the door. Antonio went to open it. A toucan landed on his arm.

"Uh huh, uh huh, I understand you!"

Then a whole flock of birds and other animals filed in the house and stood around Antonio. It was amazing!

Shortly after, we were all guided into the new room which was huge! It had a large tree in the middle and looked very much like a forest.

Music started up and everyone started dancing. The couples were dancing, including my Tía and Tío. I knew no one and Mirabel was no where to be find. If she was, I probably would have danced with her.

I sigh, Well I guess I'll just wait around till the songs are over..

I leant on a nearby tree, watching as everyone sways to the music.

Tap.

Someone taps my right shoulder.

I turn around, and look over my right shoulder, but no one was there.

Hm? I guess.. someone accidentally bumped into me. I thought as I turn to face forward.

"Boo!" My heart nearly jumps out of my body.

I screech and back up, basically hugging the tree.

The person started laughing uncontrollably. I took a better look at them and saw it was the shapeshifter.

"Ha! You should have seen your face! That was priceless!" He says as he wipes a tear from his eye.

I furrow my eyes at the boy. "Was that necessary?"

"Well maybe not, but it sure was entertaining." He says with his signature lopsided smile.

"To you," I say as I shifted my gaze to avoid direct eye contact.

"Well, moving on." He says as he slides next to me on the tree. "What're you doing standing all alone here?"

I sigh. "Tía and Tío are dancing, I don't want to interrupt. And I couldn't find Mirabel to hang out with so.. I'm here"

"Just standing here seems awfully boring though,"

"It is."

He gets off of the tree and stands right in front of me, bowing dramatically. "Then, mysterious stranger,"

I laugh at the nickname, he smiles in return.

He continues, "Care to dance?"

I look down at him, with an amused smile to match his energy.

"I would love to dance with you-" I said dramatically, but pause.

"Uhm.. I would love to dance with you.. uh..?"

I mentally curse myself as I try to remember his name!

He seems to have caught on. "You.. don't my name??"

I laugh nervously, "No no, of course I know your name! It's uh... Felix right..?" I asked, hoping I got it right.

He holds his hand over his heart, "I can't believe you. You don't know my, the most amazing and spectacular Madrigal member, name!"

"So it's not Felix..?"

"No! That's mi papa!"

"Wellll.. atleast I was close? I mean, I got the side of the family correct-"

He grabs my hand and brings me to the center of the room where everyone else was dancing. "The song's almost over."

I look at our connected hands, then at him. I give him a sly smile.

"Well, stranger, you could just say you wanted to dance with me already"

He looked back at me, then shifts his gaze somewhere else. "Yeah right. You should be honored to be dancing with me, Hermosa/o. I am the best Madrigal after all."

"Pffftt! Sure. As of now, I'd probably say Mirabel is the best, maybe Antonio. They have memorable names." I say with a laugh, waving off the nickname.

He spins me, "Camilo. My name's Camilo, and don't you forget it, stranger." He said with a teasing voice.

I couldn't stop myself from smiling.
