It took me a moment to respond to her for even though my expression looked emotionless, my mind was a racecar going round and round in circles on a track of shock as well as a little bit of disbelief even as my voice was cracking a little bit with uncertainty "war, your highness?"
She nods "yes, it must be done. That detestable king over in that Halmore kingdom of his has done too much damage to our kingdom to where it is a threat" I notice her reach under her side of the table for a moment then put it back on her lap; she then narrows her eyes slightly "you are aware of the history over there right?" I stay quiet, not sure what to say. As much as I do know the story, I always like to hear the story of it.
After a few moments of her giving me a set of inspecting eyes, she sighs disappointingly before she places her elbows on the table and clasps her hands and brings them close to her chin before continuing. "Since your obviously wanting to just hear the story again I'll just tell it again". I try to not make myself look skittish, figuring that I know that I made a mistake by asking.
Her eyes narrowed slightly "A long time ago when the kingdoms of Teslan and Halmore were young and pretty new, there was a prince that lived with his mother and father, that prince; was the cat demon hybrid of a prince named Phantom". I lean forward slightly against the table to show my genuine interest "in that kingdom, it was always terrible but he has made it worse by killing off his own blood ruthlessly during his coronation...then turning every one of his subjects into his own little demon puppets as they live in the hell that they do now".
As she finishes, has a firmness to where you could identify it as cold "it has lasted for nineteen years, that is why we must finish this war once and for all"
I stay silent for a while then, because for once again, I had to process every detail of the story as if I heard it for the first time all over again because frankly, it truly felt like I had heard it for the first time as I felt the terror and anger of what he has done.
My thoughts were suddenly interrupted as the loud thud of the doors barged open and as I turn around quickly to see who it was; tense and ready to attack if necessary, I could feel a cold breeze from the balcony kiss my lips lightly as it flew away despite the difficult situation.
"Your majesty, Halmore's troops are heading straight for us!"
My shoulders relaxed slightly seeing it was one of the other soldiers I work with but I was still stunned about this new statement, our queen's eyes widen then quickly asks with slight panic "do you have evidence of this statement?"
He nods "me and some of my other comrades were out at our posts near the hill and on the far northeast we saw the first line of the enemies army your highness" I held back the temptation of letting my jaw drop at this explanation 'this is almost too real, no...this is real' I turn my head as I look back at our queen with a serious yet frustrated expression as I awaited her orders.
I didn't have to wait for her to look my way since she seemed to be already be looking my way, ready to give me orders straight away "Wilger, round up the other soldiers and form a defense around the borders until I give my signal"
I nod before I curtsey slightly before quickly hurrying out of the room and all I can feel in the moment is determination as I walk down the halls but strangely it feels like the hallways were narrowing around me, I don't specifically know why, maybe I feel...nervous? I haven't felt this way since my training final, but now is not the time to be nervous and telling stories, now is the time to defend my kingdom.
I eventually reach the set room, you could really tell that it was the place for getting the finishing touches of being a soldier, appearance-wise at least.
