At Roosevelt High School...
There's one person within the crowd that is unlike the rest. Among the other students in the hub, she is the only girl dressed head to toe in black. She's the only one dreading being in such a crowded place. All of their gossipings, chatting, and laughter would be driving her crazy if it weren't for her Bluetooth earbuds. Fortunately, the sweet, savory sounds of Greta Van Fleet are drowning them out.
Unfortunately, the class she is heading to is Statistics. Math being her first period made the day start so very slow. Stats isn't hard for her. Even though she failed 6th-grade math, stats is pretty easy for her to handle. What made it sluggish was the repetitive process of solving the equations. Not only that, but she could swear that she shared that class with every obnoxious boy and every squeaky girl.
She sighs deeply as she enters the classroom. While she couldn't hear their chatter, she still feels the annoyance radiating from her classmates. Socializing was never her thing, so she naturally became a loner. She had two close friends. Hayden and Marlie. They're brother and sister and used to be the only people she could stand. But then she had to ruin it by falling in love with Hayden. Long story short, they broke up after a year, and she's been alone ever since. It was by design that she's stayed single. But then, there is him.
Simon Crahan. He's one of the most popular guys in school. Every girl loved him, and their boyfriends hated him. His good looks and magnetic personality carved his path to notoriety in Roosevelt. At the front of the class, he sits on his desk, surrounded by a circle of his friends.
She would admit that Simon's looks are attractive. He has icy blue eyes and light brown hair. His jawline is as strong as the bridge of his nose, which leads down to his plush lips. Plus, he has a great sense of fashion. Today, he's wearing a white Disturbed hoodie with torn, black jeans. His Timberland boots are black to match.
And she would go so far as to admit that she does have an attraction towards him. What girl wouldn't? He's great, but he's a total playboy. This school year is halfway through, and he's had four girlfriends already. While she thought he was cute, she would rather not have her heart shattered a second time.
As she sat in her seat at the back of the class, Simon can't pull his eyes away from her. She's gorgeous in every way that all of his exes weren't. She's the exact opposite of the type of girl he'd chase, but for her, he would be willing to change that.
She's got dark brown hair that reaches halfway down her back. Her eyes are a pale hazel color. Freckles are littered on her cheeks and nose. Her hips are wide, and her body is thicker than most girls. But she was so damn fine in his eyes. While he didn't even know her name, he did know that he wanted to have her.
All he knew about her was that she dated that asshat Hayden, and she doesn't talk much. He liked how she was practically invisible among the other kids in this school. Like a shadow in the background. Literally. She's always wearing black. Right now, she's wearing a black Guns N' Roses hoodie with a pair of matching jeans. And black Dr. Martins are strapped tight to her feet.
"Hey," Charles nudges Simon's arm. Simon looks away from the girl to meet the eyes of his friend. "Go talk to her, man."
"Bet," Simon smiles. A burst of confidence fills his chest as he hops down from his desk.
"There he goes again," Thomas sighs.
When Simon steps in front of her desk, she looks up at him. She raises a brow while she pulls one earbud out.
"Hey," Simon shows his pearly whites as he smirks down at her.
"Hi..." Her tone is flat. Simon could tell by the dull look in her eyes that she's severely disinterested. He knew he could win her over, so he leans down and places his hand on her desk. A silver necklace falls from the tops of his hoodie and hangs at her eye level.
"What's your name?"
Although her eyes are beautiful, they held a cold glare with his. No girl has ever looked at him like this when he approaches them.
So, she likes to play hard to get.
"Aisely," She answers him.
"Well, Aisely, how are you?" His eyes wander down her pale face to the choker on her neck. It held a silver pendant of a beetle.
"What do you want, Simon?"
Her words had his mind turning as he thinks of what to say next. An awkward chuckle rumbles in his chest, but he maintained his flirtatious composure.
"Why so uptight? I'm just trying to see if you're interested in-"
"I'm not." Aisely shuts him down. She held no remorse, either. There is no way she's falling for him.
"You're not interested in me taking you on a date, beautiful?"
Is this some kind of joke? Aisely asked herself. Compared to the other girls he's had, I'm disgusting. I'm heavier and less popular. Is he really trying to ask me out right now?
"I'm not interested in being your next plaything. Shoot your shot at some other girl."
Finally, her tense eyes leave him and she puts her earbud back in. Simon is frozen for a short moment, but soon he walks away from her desk. There was no reason to stick around now, but something made him want to try harder. The way that she straight up rejected him made him even more attracted to her. All of the girls he asked out never turned him down. The foreign feeling of rejection ignited something within him.
Obviously, he hadn't won this round. But little does Aisely know, she's just challenged Simon to make her his.
