Hi! So this is my first story but it's not really mine credit goes to ravewriter for starting the story. I'm taking it over because she couldn't continue it anymore. I am very thankful she is giving me a chance to continue it. I am going to try my hardest to give you guys a good story.

Chapter 1: Breaking Away

POV: Raven

Laying in the tall seaweed had become a habit for my twin, Codie, and I. We were born in the seaweed so we take comfort being surrounded by them. Codie being the youngest in the family could have gotten whatever he wanted it, but he never took advantage of it. We have been inseparable since birth as most twins are.

Codie and I were near carbon copies of one another, we both had dark brown hair and swimmer's bodies-we are mermen-our only differences are our eyes and in turn our tails.. Codie has sea green eyes splashed with gold, so his tail is sea green with splashes of gold, makes for a very beautiful tail. My eye and tail color go opposite of each other, my eyes are deep blue with splashes of silver, but my tail is silver with splashes of deep blue. It surprises people at first and some think it's odd but I adore my tail and eyes so I'm not complaining.

Strelonia, the world that I live one is composed of different species, everything from faeries to dragons, merpeople to trolls. Strelonia is really diverse but everyone gets along great, unlike human who are all the same and fight like nothing I have ever seen. Why our older sister Alyssa loves Earth escapes me. On Strelonia everyone has a mate, someone who will love them for who they are with no judgement. The only down fall with having a mate is that you don't get to pick who your mate is, they are picked before your even born or before they are born, whichever comes first.

Your mate can be any creature that lives on Strelonia. Take my parents for example, my mother is a mermaid while my father is a troll. Or another cause, my friend who was a faerie, ended up being mated to a troll, she was beautiful but could squish him on accident. This is where the ability to take a human form comes in handy because otherwise my parents or Adam and his mate wouldn't have been able to be together. But because we have the ability to change between a human form and whatever species we are it makes being with your mate if you aren't the same specie a lot easier.

Strelonia is split into two sides, the north and south. The north rarely ever sees any sun, only getting about an hour of sunlight a day, the majority of the time the moon shines on that side. The south side is the exact opposite, it gets about an hour of moonlight and the rest of the time is spent in the sun.

My parents use to live in the north before Alyssa was born. That is where my mom met my father and where she grew up with her family. When they realized that they were having Alyssa they decided to move to the south so that their children would grow up in the sun and not the moon. The children of two different species, like my family, always take after the mother with what species they are. I'm not sure why but it is how the world works I suppose.

I have always been fascinated with the north. Codie and I will be twenty-one soon and we have yet to find our mates. We begin to be able to feel our mates when we turn eighteen. I want to travel around Strelonia to try and find my mate I already know that they aren't anywhere near where I live because otherwise I would have found then already.

"I want to travel." I say, watching Codie blow bubbles as he floats in the seaweed, I pop the bubble he just blew.

"First leave me bubbles alone." He says acting like these are the only bubbles he can make, I swear Codie has an obsession with bubbles. "Second mom is going to cry Raven, you know how she was with Alyssa." Alyssa left to go to Earth after her mate's death, she couldn't stand to be in the same world as the one her loved died so she left, plus she's always loved Earth.
