Chapter 5: Scroll Racks and Dreams

When Winter and I got to class, the SeaWing teacher raised an eyebrow at us, and said, "Why aren't you in your sleeping caves?" He drawled slowly, tilting his head as he did. "Oh, we just were trying to find something he lost. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it's here. Bye!" I said cheerfully. We scurried out of the room. It took a little bit of looking and asking, but eventually, we figured out that we were in different sleeping caves but in the same winglet (Jade Winglet). "Bye, Tempest." Winter said wistfully. "Bye, Winter." I said sadly as he went to the next cave over from mine. I walked into my own cave and was met by Moon and the RainWing called Kinkajou. As soon as I walked into the cave, Moon had a sly smile on her face. "Oh, don't you start!" I said as I batted at her head playfully. She darted away, giggling as if we were playing a game. I turned to look at Kinkajou and saw that she also had the same sly smile on her face. "Oh, not you, too!" I said as I batted at her head playfully as she darted away giggling, too. We all played one giant game of tag in our small sleeping cave until I saw a scroll rack by one of the beds in the cave. "Ooh, scrolls!" I said cheerfully as I trotted over to it, out of breath. I pulled out an early readers scroll (for Kinkajou), a scroll about the Pyrrhian queens (for Moon), and a scroll that told the story of the romance between Foeslayer, who didn't know that she would become the mother of Darkstalker, and Prince Arctic, Queen Glacier's son, the last IceWing animus (for me). I gave Kinkajou the early reading scroll, Moon got the Pyrrhian queens scroll, and I kept the last one for myself to read. We all got to reading our scrolls, and I soon found out that my scroll was super long, and it highlighted every single detail of their romance. Halfway through the story, I closed the scroll and whispered to Moon, "Can we switch scrolls? Yours looks more interesting than mine." Moon laughed quietly. "Yeah, sure." We switched scrolls, and pretty soon, Moon fell asleep. I kept reading. Kinkajou got bored and fell asleep. I kept reading. After about an hour of reading, I knew everything there was to know about the Pyrrhian queens. I fell asleep, and I had dreams of handsome IceWings and smart NightWings and black and white eggs.
