synopsis

❛leah adler was a traitor.

well, once she wasn't.

once upon a time, leah adler was born a normal girl, in small town connecticut. she was bright, too bright for the life she had. truly, it was too unfortunate that her life played out the way it did. with her mother dead, and her father reckless, deadbeat, and out of the picture, it was just her and her sister. and although she had too hard of a life, you know what? she relished every moment of it, because it was hers. and it would always be hers. because in leah's book, life was too short. it was too short to not care.

leah had big plans for her future. dreams that were too grandiose for someone who had had the kind of childhood she had. she had dreams that soared through the depths of the ocean. there was just one problem: she knew she'd never make it without a submarine.  she yearned for independence, something she would never have.

but that was the past, wasn't it?

it all happened too fast. it was all a blur for her. so much so, she can't even remember most of it today. she found herself being shipped off to texas to attend the will of one of the richest men in america. then only to find out that she's inherited practically the whole hawthorne inheritance.

this was something that wouldn't have happened in even her wildest dreams.

who was tobias hawthorne? only the ninth richest man in the country.

did she know tobias hawthorne? no.

leah could forget the childish dreams she had before. because now, she was one of the most influential women in the world. suddenly trapped in a world filled with riddles, money, and death, leah knows that her certain death is always lurking around the corner.

and that she was never normal.

enter grayson hawthorne, the second grandson of the cherished tobias hawthorne. with his matter-of-factually personality, cold aura, and skepticism towards leah, they officially make it their goal to bring the other down.

they wanted to hate each other, but that was too easy, wasn't it?
