Kind of a long chapter, but hope you enjoy! 🌟

Colleen was up before her alarm the next morning, even before the sun. She had fallen asleep quite easily out of pure exhaustion, but found that her sleep itself was fitful, full of dreams and images and warnings that didn't quite make sense. Now that she was awake she remembered little, but was left with the haunted feeling of one who had been running in her sleep. An awareness of a heavy arm across her brought her fully into reality there in her bedroom, and she jumped a little.

Sirius was asleep on his stomach, head sideways on the pillow with his long hair falling in front of his face as he breathed deeply and evenly. At some point in the night he had put his boxers and t-shirt back on, a fact for which she was grateful. At least he was respectful of Ben in the off chance the boy went looking for his mum in the middle of the night.

Colleen slipped out of Sirius's grasp and into her robe to check on him— the little boy was fast asleep in a position not unlike Sirius's, snuggled up with a stuffed black swan one of Robert's relatives had given him when he was a baby. Colleen always thought it was a rather dark and haunting stuffed animal for a little one, but Ben really seemed to love it. She pulled the blanket up over him and kissed his head before heading to the kitchen to start coffee.

Her mind was a crazy cocktail of leftover thrill from the night before mixed with a tinge of uneasiness that it had all been too fast. Her body felt different somehow— lighter, more lithe, more sensual. Obviously. She hadn't even known such an orgasm was possible. A wave of heat hit her right there in the kitchen at the memory, and part of her wanted to run back to the bedroom and have another right then. It should be illegal to be as sexy as that man was. Colleen could tell she was going to be addicted if she wasn't careful. She would have to temper it all with really getting to know him— the good and the bad— and let any final judgments come from the whole picture. That all sounded good in the light of day, between sips of coffee, but time would tell if she could stick to it when night rolled around again.

Colleen began preparing a breakfast of eggs, toast, and mixed berries while the boys slept. Deep down she wished she could call out of work today, but she knew that would set a bad precedent. She needed Sirius to fit into her life, not take it over. Whisking the eggs, she turned to the stove just as Sirius was stumbling sleepy-eyed into the kitchen.

"If you always get up this early, love, we're going to have a bit of a problem," he mumbled, groping for the coffee pot.

"Perhaps we should reconsider sleepovers then," she suggested, handing him the cream and sugar. "It's confusing for Ben anyhow."

"So you prefer me to scurry away in the black of night?"

Colleen shrugged. "You could sleep late that way."

Sirius came behind her and grasped her hips possessively after setting his coffee aside. "I'd rather sleep with you than sleep late any day. I was simply commenting that perhaps you could request a more accommodating schedule at the office?"

Colleen laughed incredulously. "I am in no position to make demands at work after yesterday's newspaper, I can assure you."

Sirius turned her around in his arms. "So you heard about that, huh? Fuck 'em," he muttered. "You don't even need that job anyway. I'm more than able to provide for you and Ben."

"Sirius! Five days! That's how long you've known me. You have to get a grip on yourself. Besides, I like my job. I like helping women who can't help themselves. It's what I do."

His gray eyes softened and he kissed her gently. Even his most innocent and tender kisses lit a fire in her, and she felt her hips sway into him involuntarily.
