Epilogue

You and Cashier stood there as the once flickering store light was screwed back in tightly and lit the store up. Cashier handed you an apron and you smiled, adjusting it to your size as Cashier put his on, adjusting his orange pin. You stood behind the counter eagerly as Cashier flipped the open sign to the other side after so long and walked back behind the counter to meet you. He embraced you into a hug and saw the first costumer approach, letting you step up to the counter. As the person walked in, you smiled and spoke.

"Welcome! Place an item on the counter to purchase it." The person, who was wearing a red cap nodded and grabbed a soda, paying for it before taking it and staring at Cashier and smiled. He then tipped you both and walked out. You felt like he seemed familiar but you couldn't put your finger on it.

"You did great, Skates." Cashier smiled and congratulated you. You blushed and looked away.

"Thank you."

You smiled, looking around at the store you and Cashier now owned together. He took off his hat and put it on your head, adjusting it to your size and stood back, smiling.

"You look good. Keep it."

And you did. You wore it proudly whenever you came into work, looking at the dingy writing that was written so long ago on the back of it, a reminder of hard times you and Cashier overcame together with time.
