“…I can’t. I’m sorry but I just can’t,” he sighed. I couldn’t believe what he just said.

“Well you’re going to have to try,” I said lowering my voice. “I think I should go…please could I have my clothes?” I asked politely.

“They’re on the chair,” he looked down at the floor like a child who had been told of by their mum. I turned to see my clothes folded in a neat pile and my shoes were lined up next to them. I did feel a little guilty for being a bit of a bitch but I don’t want to get involved with all of this supernatural vampires and fairies crap.

“I’ll get my keys,”

“No I’ll walk,” he stood looking at the floor. I walked round him and into the kitchen so I could put my clothes on.

I wriggled into my dry skinny jeans, socks and cardigan and tucked the front of Lucas’ shirt in.

“I’ll drop your shirt round in the morning,” looked back over my shoulder as I put my boots back on.

“Roxy its pitch black and freezing cold at least let me take you home,” he pleaded.

“I’ll be fine,” I assured.

“Oh, where are we?” I inquired.

“The private lake is two hundred metres that way,” he pointed. “You can keep my shirt,” he said as if I needed something to remember him by.

“Thanks,” I said as I opened the door and stepped out into the night. I closed the door behind me and took a breath of the ice cold air. Without warning my eyes overflowed with tears and ran down my cheeks leaving warm trailed behind them. I made my way through the thick snow into the forest, it was only a five minute walk but it felt like a lifetime. My shin was still sore which slowed me down even more. When I got out of the forest I could hear sirens and see blue flashing lights in the direction of my house. I completely forgot to ask Lucas what he was going to do about her body. I walked further up the path to see her house had been taped off. I tried to look normal as I walked past the police and into my yard. As soon as I got in I locked all door and windows then double checked them.

I felt empty. Barbra was like a nanny to me and now she’s dead. I peeped through the curtains, the police were still next door carrying out their investigation. I sat downstairs on the sofa in a trance like state just staring into space. There was a confident knock at the door which snatched me from my daydream. ‘I thought I told him to leave me alone,’ I rolled my eyes.

“Hello, is anyone in? It’s the police,” I took a deep breath to compose myself before opening the door. A female and male police officer stood professionally “Hello, I’m PC ward and this is PS Clisby are your parents in?” I had to think carefully before answering. I know its not illegal to live on your own at sixteen but I didn’t want to draw any attention to myself.
