You see, there are quite a lot benefits of leanrning and cultivating with the master of age. And Wei Wuxian has just done that, purely some twisted and unforeseeable luck, resultant of some good deed ( which he was sure could be counted on fingers of one hand).

That master of age definitely disagreed.

While learning and cultivating, he had mastered the cultivation of elements, a technique which enabled even an ordinary person to utilise the qi available in surrounding and convert it into an attack, concentrating and focusing the energy at a point or a target.

Nature is full of unbound and everlasting energy, free for anyone to use. And this was a great method to channel qi in any force or attack without straining one's own core. Given that the technique was developed for emergency and common folks alike; Wei Ying couldn't be more glad to know that he could use spiritual energy if need be and not simply die in a corner of the world without anyone to protect him.

Not that he wished for anyone to protect him, maybe except one.

Still, it was nice being independent and not having to rely on someone. It gave him self confidence, a boost of belief that he could do things a normal cultivator can.

Maybe he should have trained more. Afterall, such a chance was as rare as witnessing Lan Zhan's smile.

He sure got more than expected and now he hoped it will be worth it. He didn't want to have any futile hope but his heart and mind has been all over the place since that, combined with the attack on Lan Zhan and the unresolved mystery; it was making him fidgety.

And don't even get him started on his emotions' effect on the resentful energy.

Malevolence is never worth harnessing, the deal made with it dangerous and never fruitful.

It's an ugly thing, offering you a bit in face of a pit. And you know you will jump anyway. Even if you cannot see it sometimes.

So it's better if he maintained his distance when his presence was clearly unwanted.

Because Wei Wuxian understands that while his name is clear as day and the public knows the truth; some things cannot be argued or changed.

The fact that he was known as the Yilling Patriarch and the battle of Nightless City which happened because Wei Wuxian chose to protect those innocent people labelled 'dangerous'; his choice of siding with the war criminals over the sect which basically raised him is never going to change.

The seige of Burial Mounds will never be erased from the pages of history, nor will the name of Yilling Patriarch.

That alone is a thorn which pricks Wei Wuxian everytime he talks to someone here. History and facts aside, the situation here is different.

Wei Ying could feel that they were hiding something which they didn't want him to know about. But Wei Ying is a curious cat, you cannot just tell him not to do something and expect him to follow. If he is curious, he won't sit still till he got the answer, no matter what.

He knows it's foolish, to jump without looking in everything but he cannot help it. His curiosity will kill him first if boredom doesn't and.....didn't Jiang Cheng tell him semi aggressively to guard the disciples and watch over them ? Well two birds with one stone.

Also, no adults in lotus pond ? In Yunmeng? The boy needs to be a bit more creative....

****

In the end, the disciples admitted defeat and let him come with them but not before making him swear that he will not breath a word about it to Jiang zhongzhu. Wei Wuxian agreed easily, smiling like a cat who got the cream and the canary.
