One morning before work Adaline stopped through the market picking up some fresh produce, Polly had reached out to her to explain that Ada had not left the basement since returning after her baby boy's birth and Freddie's arrest. Polly asked Adaline to stop by with some goods to help her because she was refusing to speak to the family and seeing how much Adaline had helped at the birth of the baby she thought she may be able to get through to Ada, so as Della made her way along the dark corridor to Ada's apartment she heard the baby crying, slowly placing the basket down and knocking on the door

"Polly I fuckin told you, I don't want anything to do with the Shelbys anymore," Ada said shouting as she flung the door open with the baby in her hand only to realize it wasn't Polly standing outside

"Then I guess, it's a good thing I'm not a Shelby" she smirked

"Adaline, what are you doing here, not coming to vouch for Tommy are you?"

"No Ada, I've come to check on you and that gorgeous baby boy you have," Adaline said with a smile

"If you weren't sent to spy on me by my family, how did then how did you get my address" Ada questioned

"You Shelbys aren't the only one with connections in this city" Adaline teased picking up the basket of produce as the baby started to cry causing Ada to move out of the doorway gesturing for Adaline to come in

As Adaline stepped into the small room, she saw how Ada had been living and why Polly had been so worried, it was dark and there was mold growing on the walls, in the corner sat a single bed and a small basket for the baby and she tried putting herself into Ada's shoes imagining how hard it must be to be fighting with her family, after having a baby and having her husband arrested and Adaline decided that what Ada needed more than anything was a friend.

"I don't know what to do Adaline, he won't stop crying, no matter how much I feed him or comfort him, he won't stop and I'm failing at this" Ada said as she started to cry

"You are not failing Ada, you are a good mother, it's a learning curve, here give him to me and I'll try a trick my mum taught me, will you mix up some baking soda and water," Adaline said taking the baby from Ada as she made up the mixture handing it to her, Adaline slowly fed the mixture to the baby and he slowly stopped crying and after a little, while he fell asleep in her arms

"How did you do that, I've tried everything," Ada said taking a seat on the edge of the bed weeping

"Sometimes babies get upset bellies and this helps, and after what you two have been through it wouldn't surprise me if his belly was sensitive, have you decided on a name for him yet?" Adaline said walking around holding the baby

"Karl, after Karl Marx," Ada said with a giggle

"Well Karl, you've got some expectations to live up to but I know you'll surpass them all," Adaline said cooing at the baby before putting him in this basket to sleep soundly

"Thank you, Adaline, thank you," Ada said crying again giving her a hug

"Well don't thank me yet, I have a proposition for you Ada, I think you should come and live with me"

"What Adaline, why would I do that" Ada said slightly offended

"Just breath Ada, I think you should come live with me until this stuff with your family and Freddie blows over, you need support and your family and Freddie can't and aren't giving that to you right now and I can, I have a spare bedroom that is unused, tidy and above ground, I can help you, Ada, I want to help you. Your family don't have to know that you've come to live with me but you need support and I'm here to support you and Baby Karl"
