We sat in the car in silence, not speaking to each other. I sat with my knees against my chest and my arm leaning against the mirror. I stared at the moving building wondering if what I was doing was right. I understood Samuel was just asking for one night, and one night only, but what if Jaydon finds out?

I glanced down at my engagement ring, and sighed heavily. It suddenly felt so heavy on my finger. I grabbed it and put in the glove compartment. I didn’t want to look at it, at least for right now.

“I feel like I’m forcing you to do this,” Samuel spoke out giving me a quick glance.

I shook my head keeping my eyes glued out the window. “It’s been a long day Samuel,” I responded quietly.

He sighed. He placed his hand on my knee and shook it lightly. I looked straight at him and smiled. “You aren’t forcing me to do anything.” I assured him. “It’s two in the morning and I still don’t have a clue where you are taking me.”

He had told me he was going to take me to the beach, but he then said he had a much better idea. I didn’t ask him where he was taking me because I knew wherever it was, he would be happy about it.

For a day I just wanted to see Samuel smile again like old times. Seeing him happy and enjoying himself would bring some closure into me. So when I get married this weekend I wouldn’t have to worry about him.

He got off the highway and entered into a long lane road. From where we were at I could see a small cottage. When we got closer I realized it was a lake house, behind the small cottage was a huge lake. We were surrounded by trees and natures natural beauty.

“Do you like it?” He asked me quietly.

            I nodded. “It’s beautiful.”

“It’s my parents, they bought a little after they got married.” He informed me. We got out the car and walked towards the porch. On the side there was an outside couch, and on the other side of the porch there was a white swing porch.

Samuel opened the door and told me to go inside. The cottage was nicely decorated, making it feel like home. The kitchen was small but enough for two people and the stairs lead up to three rooms.

Samuel stood behind me waiting for me to finish glancing at the cottage. “It’s breathtaking,” I smiled at him.

“I’m glad you liked it,” He responded. “Do you want to take a shower while I make something to eat?”

I nodded. We went upstairs to the master’s bedroom. Inside there was a restroom and a king size bed, a small coffee table was against the wall. From where the bed was facing stood a balcony, which you could see, the entire lake.

Samuel handed me a pair of his sweatpants and a tank top. He told me where the towels were and that he would be waiting for me downstairs. When the door closed behind me I stood there for a minute.
