"What can a zim like you do to stop me?"
"Please...Please. I just want my son to grow up."
"Unless he suddenly develops an affinity, I'm afraid he has no future."
Alex woke up in a cold sweat and looked at their clock. It read 1:47 AM. Great, they thought, another sleepless night. They headed up to the roof of the mansion as they would do on any night like this. Their dad didn't allow Alex up there anymore, but he was asleep, so it didn't matter.
She was already up there.
"Can't sleep?" She asked them as they laid down next to her.
"C'mon Eve, you know I never sleep."
"How could I forget? My insomniac significant other," she laughed.
A minute of silence passed between the two as they looked up at the moon. The moon. The moon held a special place in Alex's heart. They thought of the moon as their friend that they could talk to on late nights when they couldn't sleep. This started when their mom died. Their mom was the sweetest woman alive. She was the light of Alex's life, the only thing keeping them going, but ever since she died, their dad has gotten more and more aggressive and cruel. The moon is an escape from all of that.
Alex turned to look at Evelyn. She had jet black hair and bright blue eyes. Her smile shone in the dark and her laugh filled Alex with a feeling they just couldn't get from a man.
"Another dream?"
Alex didn't say anything.
"I'm going to take your silence as a yes. Do you want to talk about it?"
"Why is it so lifelike if it's just a dream?" Alex blurted out. "What if it's just another vision?"
"Alex, we've been over this. You need to talk to somebody who's actually real."
