I took a weekend trip from Crystal County to Blackberry County. As I am halfway home on a Sunday night, the weather suddenly turns from a bright sunny day to sudden heavy rainfall. It starts pouring heavily that I can't see where I'm driving, so I check my phone for the closest hotel and found out it was about 5 minutes away.
I slowly drive to the Hillside Hotel, went inside, and check in to room 110. I quickly go to my room, drop my suitcase, and go to freshen up in the bathroom but something stops me. Out of the corner of my eyes, a suitcase, on the handle of the suitcase, I spot a name tag.
The Suitcase belongs to Carlos James. I also see it filled with a bundle of hundred dollar bills and the handle of what looks like a gun. Out of curiosity, I decide to open it up some more to see what's in it. Once I got it open, I see native goods, from pieces of jewelry to small potteries.
But I am more focused on the gun, I am so scared that I don't know what to do, so many unanswered questions run through my head. Why would someone have a gun? Did he leave it here on purpose? What if he comes back? Do I call the front desk? Before I could get myself together, someone knocks on my door which makes me jump, probably because I'm so scared and nervous.
I walk to the door, look in through the peephole and see a man who had jet black hair, and brown eyes that looks intimidating. My mind tells me not to open the door, but I don't listen, I open the door and asks the man if he wanted something. He shoved past me and walks towards the suitcase, and he realizes that it is open.
He grabs the gun, turns, and slowly walks towards me like I'm his prey. My mind is telling me to do something, run out of the room but I'm too scared to move. He aims the gun at me and asks me to give him a reason not to shoot me. I explain everything to him and that he shouldn't kill me. I can't comprehend what is happening, my mouth was moving but I can't hear what I am saying. I tell him that I won't tell anyone about tonight. He seems to be fighting with himself, trying to decide what to do which gives me a bit of hope. He finally tells me that I should go, but if I tell anyone about tonight, he will find me.
I am so grateful, I immediately pick up my suitcase and turn to go, before I leave, I feel pain in my back and starts feeling dizzy. As my eyes start to close, the last thing I see is Carlos standing over me....smiling.
