The summer sun shone brightly on the day I left. The dark dreary mood was not at all supplemented by the warm day. It was the perfect day to say hello and the worst to say goodbye.

I remember when I said hello it was the worst day to say hello and the best to say goodbye. It was dark and cloudy and the winter storm raged on covering my entrance.

I had just started my life. Only 18 years old. Only a freshly minted adult. But just like the winter storm from when I said hello the storm that was my life did not stop until the sun came to melt all the wreckage away.

I said hello on many days, all of them terrible. I said hello to my best friend on the same day her cat died, to my son when it was stormy and bleak, to my nephew over the phone while the line continuously cut out, and to my dentist while needing a tooth pulled.

I did have one good hello.

I remember when I said hello to my wife it was a day when the skies were bluer than her azure eyes and the grass greener than her Oscar the Grouch t-shirt.

But there was no red on Earth that day or the next or any day following that was deep enough to match the blood that poured from her on that day we said goodbye. It was the worst day to say goodbye.

The summer sun shone brightly on the day she left. The dark dreary mood was not at all supplemented by the warm day. She always thought that was the perfect day to say goodbye and the worst to say hello.
