I sat patiently at the table. Takumi sat across from me, polishing the Fujin Yumi. Jakob and Silas stood off to the side, monitoring us.

I stared down at my tea, which had gone cold long ago. My nerves jumbled together as I awaited the return of the others.

We hadn't fought an actual battle in some time. And while I knew my family was more than capable, I couldn't help but worry.

The door slammed open, and I jumped. Soldiers rushed in, their swords and spears pointed at me. Saizo came in last, sending me a harsh glare.

Jakob rushed forward, holding out his dagger in defense.

"What is the meaning of this?!" he growled.

Silas pulled me to my feet, keeping a firm grip on my shoulders. Saizo pointed a throwing star at me, almost as if he were aiming.

"Ask the traitor! She-"

"Saizo!"

Ryoma and the others rushed into view. They seemed hesitant to look at me.

"What happened?" I asked.

Ryoma shared a glance with Azura, then turned back to me.

"Why did you attack the other soldiers?" He asked in response.

My brows furrowed as I looked at Azura.

"Amethyst has been with me since Azura sent us back. She never attacked any soldiers," Silas stepped in.

"Y-yeah, I've-"

"You'll only say that because you're loyal to her."

I looked at Azura for help, but she seemed confused.

"As-ask Takumi! I've been here with Silas!"

I turned to Takumi, who only spared a glance from his bow. He shrugged and continued polishing it.

"I don't know. I wasn't paying attention."

Hope fell from my heart, leaving me nearly ice cold.

"What?" I whispered.

Saizo bent his arm to throw his star at me. I backed into Silas before wriggling out of his grasp. A soldier tried to swing at me, but I ducked, covering my head. A clang echoed above me before I took off.

"Amethyst!" the others called.

I continued running, weaving my way through the halls until I made it outside. A couple of soldiers jumped in fright, but did nothing.

I headed for the lake on the castle grounds, the only peaceful place I could think of.

I made it to the water, then tripped and fell. I stayed on my hands and knees, gasping for air.

A hand gripped my lungs, making it difficult to breathe. I couldn't help but shudder as the cold settled in.

A twig snapped behind me. I whirled my head, looking back. But no one was there. I sat up, taking in a deep breath.

"Azura?" I called out, "Ryoma?"

I waited for them to come out, but they never did. I got to my feet, looking around.

"Hello?"

"It's been some time since I last saw you, hasn't it?"

I turned to my left, finding two cloaked figures standing. I stumbled back, reaching for my sword, before I remembered I'd left it inside. I turned back to the figures as I gripped my dragon stone.

The taller figure stepped forward, raising a tome.

"What do you want from me?" I asked.

"I'm just here to see the chaos ensue when your family finds out."

"Find out what?!"

The two pulled their hoods back. I grew stiff, my mouth agape as I stared at the first.

"I-Iago?! But- but-!"

"I see you're too surprised to notice my friend here."

He gestured to the second person, and I froze. The grin on her face only grew as my shock took hold.

"How-?"

"Amethyst!"

I jumped from my shock at the sound of my name. Iago's tome lit up as he stepped back.

"We'd best be going now. Your family will find out soon, so don't worry too much!"

The spell flew from Iago's hand straight to my chest. It tossed me back to the ground, leaving my body burning in pain. I screamed out, still clinging to my dragon stone.

Footsteps came up behind me before a blue light took over my vision. I passed out before I could make sense of anything else.

As of posting this, I've pre-written two new chapters! I'm excited to get further in this story, and hopefully improve from the unfinished original draft!

I'm currently switching between working on this book and working on an original, so I still have some work ahead of me haha!

I hope you've enjoyed this story so far! There's a lot more I want to do for this story, and I hope to work more on it soon!
