Deer
She lies so peaceful,
neck craned up,
perking her ears,
as if she could still hear.
A creature so beautiful,
a creature so fragile.
But the you notice -
the pleading, glazed-over eyes,
the mouth ever so slightly open,
and the hole where the bullet must have struck.
No hunter has come,
Just a shot that missed its mark.
