My Own Private Sorting

Start from the beginning

"Do you really think he will let be like any other student? I'm surprised I am not being locked away forever," I grumble as he lets out a deep sigh through his nose.

"Jordan" He warned me as I threw the sheets off to the side and got up from my bed.

"Try not to get into too much trouble before the term has even started" He warned as I gave him a cheeky grin.

"Where's the fun in that? I'll be on my best behavior" I gave him a devilishly grin as he shook his head before scuffling up my already messy hair.

"Oi!" I went to try and playfully kick him but he dodged out of reach as we heard a throat being cleared in my doorway. Glancing up to see Minerva, the smile wiped from my face as I pursed my lips and stood unnaturally straight.

"Severus"

"Minerva" They both sourly acknowledged each other. Severus glanced back over at me before giving me a small smile and wink of encouragement before he disappeared off to his own quarters. Glancing down at her hands I noticed the sorting hat as I scoffed in her direction.

"So I don't get to join the sorting like every other new student to Hogwarts?" I asked her with a soured tone.

"You and I both know that you are not like any other student" She instructed as she swept into my room and placed the hat on my head. He hummed and thought for a while contemplating between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor.

"Better be Gryffindor. The house of the lion hearted must...." He announced before he was suddenly ripped from my head. Frowning in confusion I glanced up at Minerva to see her slightly paler but more importantly she was furious at the hat. She looked as though she was ready to rip him to shreds.

"I'm sorry it's such a disappointment to have me in your house" I grumble slightly wounded to think she was angry at the thought I would be her problem. I have developed a thick skin over the years but no matter how hard I tried I still deep down wanted to please what was left of my family even though I knew it was a futile attempt. My grandfather had taught me one lesson and one alone growing up. I had no one by myself to rely on and that I should only put my trust in myself.

"Where is your broomstick? First years aren't allowed to have them" She changed the subject as she began to search my room to confiscate it.

"You're not serious! Give that back!" I leapt towards her as she gripped my Nimbus Two Thousand and held it out of my reach.

"Dumbledore's instructions are clear"

"Why do you always defend him and his actions? You can't actually agree with what he has done to me!" I growl

"Don't give me that tone young lady," She growled back as I crossed my arms over my chest and huffed.

"This is a joke" I huffed angrily.

"I am not your enemy Jordan"

"You aren't being my friend either!"

"I am not supposed to be your friend. I am your godmother" She answered back.

"Of course, how could I forget?"

She didn't answer back before she stormed from my room in a huff. Closing my eyes I slowed down my breathing in my attempts to control my anger.

"Come on Lucky" I muttered as he happily skipped beside my ankles as I took several steps at a time in the direction to the Hogwarts kitchens. The house elves took no notice of me, as they were too busy preparing for the grand feast later this evening when everyone arrived. A bowl appeared at my feet filled with kibble as Lucky happily helped himself. A plate of toast, bacon and eggs along with a glass of chocolate milk appeared as took a few nibbles. I subconsciously stared at the milk allowing my finger to twirl above it slowly as I watched the water moving at my command as though there was a spoon mixing it.

My appetite had vanished when I realized I wouldn't be able to have anymore-late night flights. I could sense that Lucky was getting restless as I took the long way through the halls in the direction of Hagrid's cabin. Lucky raced ahead of me and began to playfully tumble and pounce on Fang who happily chased him.

"Jordan!"

"Hiya Hagrid" I smile softly as he pulls me into a deep warm hug.

"Excited to be finally starting this year? I wonder which house you'll get into? Ravenclaw, no Gryffindor like your mother" He asked me with a deep smile. His smile and energetic attitude has always been contagious as I couldn't help but smile back. No one ever talked about my parents to me, it was a surprise to hear Hagrid talk about my mother so freely. Usually when he started to say anything he would clamp up and pretend his didn't say anything.

"I've been sorted into Gryffindor already" I told him as he smiled before frowning as he realised that the order of events for me to be sorted into a house didn't match up.

"What have you been up to?" I distracted him as he easily got distracted into telling me about his adventures.

"I've just been back from delivering you-know-what to Dumbledore." He whispered, afraid someone (even though there is no one around) would overhear him.

"Yes well it's best no one knows it's here" I whisper giving him a wink as he tapped his nose as his attempt to keep his promise. I sighed shaking my head as I head back towards the castle, sadly Hagrid couldn't keep a secret to save his life. But then he hasn't spilled about me and who I am, yet.

"Ss-s-sorry" Quirrell apologized as he had stumbled into me.

"Professor Quirrell" I huffed in annoyance as he gulped in my direction. Narrowing my eyes at him I felt an uncomfortable shudder go up my spine. Something wasn't right about him as he quickly scampered off down a different corridor, glancing back at me only once. He made me uncomfortable, almost as though he could be dangerous, but surely that pathetic man couldn't be dangerous? I knew better than to judge a book by its cover so I would just keep my distance and keep a close eye on him. Making my way back towards my room I paused in utter confusion to see an empty wall, where my door should have been.

"What?" I whispered horrified. Turning I nearly walked straight into Minerva as she commanded me to follow after her towards the Gryffindor common room. The Fat Lady marveled at the sight of seeing me, she was excited to be able to have the bragging rights to the other portraits that I would belong to Gryffindor house.

"Caput Draconis," Minerva answered as the Fat Lady huffed before opening the portrait to allow us to enter.

"Your room is there on the left" She told me as I looked in the direction she was pointing at. Over on the right were two sets of stairs where all the other girl and boy dormitories were, but newly added on the far left was a separate staircase leading to a single door. My bedroom.

"What no roommates?" I tease her before she huffs and leaves. It was probably a good thing I wasn't going to have any roommates, I have been on my own for as long as I could remember I don't think I could survive sharing my personal space with others. However I was disappointed deep down.

"Who am I kidding" I muttered to myself. I wasn't going to be making many friends anyways; there was no point in trying to think otherwise.
