Chapter 26

It's already Thursday. Tomorrow is my mother's birthday. That's why I'm here with my sister at her and kuya Stephen's condo.

We wanted to start baking already 'cause it's a big cake. I just finished my class for today and I immediately head here. Ready naman na raw sabi ni ate ang lahat ng kailangan namin. Si Kuya Steph ay wala pa dito sabi ni Ate baka raw kasama pa mga kaibigan niya o nasa library pa.

We were in their kitchen— both wearing an apron and our hair was on a messy bun.

"Will Nathan come?" tanong ni Ate habang pinagmimix ko ang mga dry ingredients.

"I don't know, I already told him about it but he said he'll think about it, last Sunday— I want him to come but I think it's better if he won't? That works best for him at the moment. Hindi ko alam kung anong pwedeng gawin ni mama sa party. Because you saw what happened, right?"

She let out a heavy sigh, "Yeah, I couldn't interrupt them because it would seem disrespectful that I interrupted their get together. That's why Steph and I were surprised when you spoke up. I confronted mother the next day after that, she said she didn't mean it but I know her. I didn't buy that explanation of hers." she explained to me.

I sneered, not looking at her. "She left a huge effect of Lucas. He was different after that lunch thing. He feels that he wasn't enough because of it. Hindi ko rin naman alam kung yun ba ang unang insidente na may ganong ginawa si mama. Baka mamaya kung ano-ano na ang sinasabi niya kay Lucas kapag wala ako."

"I'm sorry about that." she sighed in disbelief.

Hindi na ako nagsalita at tinuloy na lang ang pagba-bake namin. Two layered cake lang naman ang balak naming gawin. We wanted to make the cake simple just like how mother wants it.

Ate wanted the theme to be beachy type since mother loves the sea she's also fond of sea shells so we would be creating shells made of fondant— and will be adding pearls on the sides of the cake.

Dalawang salang lang naman ng batter sa oven dahil malaki naman oven nila at kaya mag fit doon yung dalawang lalagayanan for the first layer ng cake.

Ate and I were eating cup noodles while waiting for the cake to finish cooking. Anong oras na rin kasi. We were both sitting on the seats on their kitchen table counter.
