TW - canon-typical mentions of violence

Y/N's POV

"Emily and Y/N, congratulations on your new home." Hotch announced with a small laugh. Giggles from everyone but me and Emily sounded in the room as we looked at each other in shock.

"You're joking, right?" Emily questioned.

"Nope, sorry." He returned amusedly, everyone else still laughing to themselves.

"Hotch, I really don't know if this is a good idea I-" I protested before he cut me off.

"The decision came from above me, my hands are tied. I know you two have your...differences but you work well together and as far as we know, same-sex female couples aren't being targeted." He informed, a smirk still playing on his lips.

"You can wipe that smirk off your face, all of you." Emily muttered with an eye roll as she crossed her arms against her chest. A mumble of sorry came from everyone as they tried to hide their amusement.

"So, what do we know so far?" Rossi asked.

"Laura Jenkins, 30 and Henry Jenkins, 32 were found 6 weeks ago in the wooded area surrounding the gated community. Laura was reported missing by Henry a week before they were found together; she had cuts and bruises at varying degrees of healing stages, some around a week old. There was evidence of water in her lungs, marks around her wrists show she had been tied up, there was no evidence of sexual assault - cause of death was a laceration of the throat. Her husband Henry was killed with a shot to the head. Caroline Jacobs, 27 and Steven Waters, 30 were found in the same wooded area 2 days ago with the same injuries."

"So, the women are abducted, tortured for a week and then murdered? Definite overkill." Derek noted.

"The way they're positioned reinforces the misogynistic nature of the murders. The women have been tortured in multiple ways, their deaths have likely been slow and painful, spread over a week - the men likely die quickly. Laura and Caroline seem to have been literally dumped at the sites, the way they're on their backs with their limbs in various positions suggests the unsub just throws them down. However, both Henry and Steven are placed face down with their arms positioned beside them - the way they're placed is identical." Spencer observed.

"It's likely a male, unhappily married, middle aged-" Rossi started.

"You're describing a large portion of the community's population - that's why we need undercover agents, to gather intel from within their space. They're quite a close-knit community, questionings have turned up nothing - it seems either nobody has any ideas of who could be doing this or they don't want to speak poorly about their neighbours. We need people on the inside assessing the nature of the relationships before we go in there - we're at a dead end right now." Hotch explained to us.

"Based on the pattern so far the unsub will likely have a cool off period of at least a couple of weeks." Spencer noted.

"Right, I want everyone in casual clothing - we're helping the happy couple settle into their new home. Emily and Y/N - go home and pack, meet up back here and we'll all head over."

"Come on, babe - we've got a busy day ahead of us." I smirked as I started heading out of the conference room, much to the amusement of the others - apart from Emily of course, she gave me her trademark eye roll.

"Call me babe again and you'd wish you hadn't."

----------------------------------------------------------------------

We all arrived at the house a couple of hours later, carrying bags of clothes and boxes with some personal items to make it look like a realistic home. The house had an open plan kitchen and living room as you walked in, a three-seater sofa holding cushions and a blanket faced a TV on the wall. A small bookshelf held books both of us had brought with us to create the illusion of a genuine home. The kitchen housed an island in the middle with stools around the edge, windows looked out into the small back garden.

The stairs led up to a bathroom with a large bath, white tiles reflecting the sunlight bouncing through the windows. Beside it was a large bedroom, a king sized bed against the wall, a large wardrobe along the opposite wall and a dressing table. Seeing this I went back out to the front of the house where everyone else was chatting, having a break from carrying boxes with an iced drink.

"Uh guys, there's only one bedroom." I spoke.

"You're kidding." Emily replied with a small huff of annoyance; the others laughed to themselves.

"This was the only house available." Hotch spoke through a laugh. Penelope and Derek seemed to think this was hilarious as they laughed together, Spencer and Rossi at least tried to hide their smiles.

"Oh, hi! Are you our new neighbours?" A woman, maybe in her 30s, spoke from the front lawn beside us.

"Hi!" Emily greeted with a smile. "Yeah, me and my girlfriend are moving in - our friends are just helping us out with the boxes." Everyone shared knowing looks at her calling me her girlfriend and I could see Penelope choke back a giggle.

"I'm Alison, my husband David is at work." She spoke as I walked to stand beside Emily.

"I'm Emily, this is Y/N." She introduced as she snaked her arm around my waist, her hand resting on my hip.

"Hi, nice to meet you." I greeted with a smile and shook her hand.

"Nice to meet you too! It's good to have some fresh faces around here, you should pop over some time - a lot of us in the community get together on the weekends you should join us when you're more settled in."

"That sounds great!" Emily responded enthusiastically, looking down to me with a smile, I smiled up at her trying to sell our relationship; our height difference becoming noticeable to me as this was the closest we've ever stood.

"Well I'll leave you to it, welcome to your new home."

"Thanks, we'll see you around." I waved as she went back inside her house.

"Aw, you two look so cute together." Penelope squealed as we turned back to the group, Emily's arm quickly fell from my waist at the comment, leaving a strangely cold feeling where it once lay.

"Shut up, Garcia." She scowled with a slight smirk turning up her mouth.

----------------------------------------------

The rest of the afternoon and evening was spent unpacking bags before we discussed the case over Chinese takeaway. We have to get to know the dynamics within the neighbourhood and the families that live here whilst not being suspicious - somehow gaining intel without looking like we're FBI. This does not sound as simple as everyone seems to think.

"I've set up security systems around the house just in case, they'll give us a direct alert if anything happens."

"Thanks Garcia." Emily smiled.

"You'll be able to get in constant contact with us, any information you find report it back to us." Hotch added. "Your guns are in the safe upstairs."

"Yeah, they're in your lovely shared wardrobe - the one in the room with that one bed." Derek teased.

"You're just jealous Morgan, you wish you could share a room with one of us." I joked back.

"He'd be lucky." Emily added as she smiled.

"We'll leave you to settle in."

"Be safe, no physical altercations when there's nobody here to break you apart okay?" Rossi declared as the others smiled in amusement, saying their goodbyes.

As the door shut behind them the two of us were left in a slightly awkward silence.

"I'm gonna shower and head to bed, do you want me to take the couch tonight or?" Emily asked.

"I'll take the couch tonight but I'm sleeping in the bed tomorrow."

"Deal. We can alternate. See you in the morning Y/L/N." She waved with an almost invisible smile as she started up the stairs.

"Night Prentiss."
