she comes in
it follows
we sit
it sits
I stare at it
she looks at me weird
what is it, she says
a shadow, I say
she looks for it
but she cannot see it
graham, I want to help, she says
you are, I say
how, she says
you care
that's all the help I need
because now
they are scared
because you help
them disappear
and cause less harm, I say
she smiles
holds my hand
it disappears
we sit like that
for hours
just sitting
sometimes talking
and it never comes
until she leaves
then it growls
and attacks
