Sam was going home after six long months and was sitting in the airport lounge. She had joined as an intern after completing her studies a big private hospital in the capital. The dumb politicians running the government had announced a lockdown overnight without any warning. She was caught unawares like millions of people in the country. Handling covid patients for such a long period while wearing the cumbersome protective gear had started to get to her. She was grateful now that she can go home and be pampered by her parents for the next few days.
Sam felt the mobile vibrate in the pocket of her jeans. It was her best friend Rita calling her.
"HEYA SAMANTHA," shouted Rita who was always in a hyper mode.
"Stop shouting,Rita. Nearly everyone in the can hear you,"said a laughing Sam.
"Shutup, when is your flight," asked a giggling Rita.
"The boarding is going to start in a few minutes," said Sam.
"Did you see any hot guys?" Rita asked in a teasing voice.
"Uff, don't you start again," said Sam glancing around the waiting area. She found herself staring at the most alluring green eyes on a smartly dressed guy sitting opposite her. The guy was wearing a mask so she couldn't know how he looked like but the eyes were damn beautiful. She found herself cursing about covid and the mandatory requirement of wearing masks.
"Hey, what was that," asked Rita.
Sam realised that she had completely forgotten that Rita was still on the phone. "Oh, it's nothing. I just saw a guy in a mask with pretty green eyes and was cursing the covid pandemic," said Sam.
"Go and talk to the guy right now," ordered Rita.
"What are you talking about? What will I say to him," asked Sam.
"Go and tell him that your eyes are pretty so let's go and have a cup of coffee," chuckled Rita.
"You are a crazy bitch," said Sam while laughing at her crazy friend of five years with whom she had shared her hostel room in the medical college.
"No risk, no fun, go and just talk to him. Ask him where he is going or something,"urged Rita.
"It's too late now," said Sam while looking at her watch, "I need to board now, talk to you after reaching home."
"Okay, sweetie. Bye. Try to join the mile high club at least this time," chuckled Rita into the phone.
"Stop it, you are crazy. Bye," said a laughing Sam and cut the call. Sam's sex life had been non-existent for the past six months and she was happy without the complications which relationships bring. She thought of her college boyfriend who was her first and only lover till date and tried to think of the happy times spent with him but all she could remember was the last time she saw him whenhe was in the throes of a climax with another girl in the bed where they had made love numerous times. She had shut the door to that room and her relationship with the cheating son of a bitch. He had tried to call her later and when she had blocked his number, tried to call Rita to apologise and explain.Rita had showered him with so many abuses that he never tried calling Rita again.
The announcement call for her flight brought Sam back to the present. Sam boarded the flight, put on her seat belt and waited for the flight to take off.
