epilogue [part two]

Start from the beginning

"Great, my neck's not hurting anymore," Kyo's voice was muffled from the cereal in her mouth. "When's Cheol coming?"

"I'm going to sign the paperwork later this afternoon, then he should be coming around tomorrow or the day after," Sae-Byeok said with a biggest smile on her face, and Kyo wiped at the crumbs around her mouth, missing a lot of them.  The younger girl leaned forward, wiping at her mouth with a tissue. "You're sloppy."

"Go away," Kyo pushed her hand away, setting the cereal box aside and burying her head into her pillows. Sae-Byeok rolled her eyes before jumping on top of her, causing her to yelp. "What the--"

"Hi."

"Yeah," Kyo rolled her eyes as she gently grabbed her and pulled her onto her lap. "Hello." She looked up at the girl in her lap, smiling softly. "I don't know if you can tell, but I'm pretty excited for the future."

"You're not the only one," Sae-Byeok whispered, moving her hair out of her eyes. "Your hair's getting slightly longer. I can cut it again if you want."

"Sure."

And then Sae-Byeok tilted Kyo's head up and gently placed her lips on hers.

"Where is she?" The adorable voice of Cheol asked as Sae-Byeok held his hand, guiding him through the hallways of the hospital towards Kyo's hospital room. She had a cool smile on her face as they walked. "This room?"

"Cheol, no, that's the women's bathroom," Sae-Byeok pulled him out of the doorway and opened the door to Kyo's room. She let him go when he saw Kyo, and watched him run towards her, hugging the girl tightly. "And this is her room."

"What happened to you?" Cheol asked.

"It's a long story," Kyo said, hoisting him up onto her lap. "But did your darling sister tell you a little something on the way here?" He shook his head adorably and Sae-Byeok face-planted. "Oh? She didn't?"

"She got me ice cream though," Cheol shrugged. "What was she gonna tell me?"

"Well. . . " Kyo said. "You know how in stories, a boy and a girl fall in love?" He nodded and she grabbed his hand. "Let's just say I'm your sister's. . . boy . . . in a way."

"So, you're. . . her husband?"

Sae-Byeok snorted, and Kyo closed her eyes with a smile, "Kind of, but the girl version."

"So, her wife?" Cheol concluded.

They nodded.

"That's. . . so cool!" He cheered and Sae-Byeok chuckled while Kyo tried her best to make sure he didn't fall off of the hospital bed as he jumped up and down.

"Help, I don't know how to handle these things," Kyo sent Sae-Byeok a pleading look while the other girl laughed. "What's so funny?"

"I've never seen you so panicked, it's adorable," Sae-Byeok said as she grabbed Cheol and threw him up in the air and caught him as he giggled. Kyo couldn't help but smile at the interaction. All that was left to do was get both of their mothers out and live a happy life.

It was bittersweet, however, Kyo couldn't help but imagine how everything would be if she didn't survive Sang-Woo's attack. Her uncle probably would've continued the game regardless. Gi Hun would have killed his best friend. Her mother would wonder why she was thrown out onto the streets, she'd wonder where her daughter was.

Sae-Byeok would be devastated.

But she was thankful that she did survive, otherwise, she wouldn't get to see Sae-Byeok's beaming smile and laugh whenever Cheol was around, especially now. She watched Sae-Byeok chase her brother around the room, and the boy crawled under Kyo's bed to escape.

"Children are terrifying," Kyo's eyes widened as Cheol crawled out from under the bed. Sae-Byeok picked him up again and placed him on Kyo's lap. "Nope, away." The younger girl laughed at her terrified expression, shaking her head.

"So, just to recap," Sae-Byeok said. "Your two weakness are: myself and children." Kyo rolled her eyes, shaking her head, gently shaking Cheol.

"Your sister's an idiot," Kyo told him and Cheol giggled.

"She told me one time that water was spelt with two t's," Cheol informed her and Sae-Byeok's smile dropped.

"Hey. Buddy. We promised we wouldn't talk about that day."

"Oops," Cheol made a face.

"I take it back. This one's adorable," Kyo smirked.
