the smell
of the room
smelled of
mint
and
clean
carpets.

he walked in,
calm.
his face showed
no emotion.
his hands
were by his
side,
his legs
walking
in a straight
line.

they read his
face.
it's a good
thing
that they
couldn't
read his
mind.

he sat down
at the stand
and poured
out his
truth,
but they
ringed
in the
people's ears
as lies.

he didn't
dare
shed a
tear
or let out
a sob
or fell
to the
ground
though he
so badly
wanted to.

he thought
this was Hell.
eternal
damnation.

he thought
that the pain
would never
end.

but God
must've
always
been on
his side.
all of Heaven
rejoiced
as
one word
rang out
throughout
the room
that smelled
of mint
and
clean carpets.

innocent.
