Enid's POV
"Just survive somehow."
I remember the day he arrived. The sun was shining so bright and beautiful; the wind was blowing in a slight breeze, making the trees sway in a rhythmic motion. It was quite warm that day. It felt like a hot summers day in the middle of August. That was okay, though. I quite liked the heat. It reminds me of the days years ago in my backyard playing with my friends, splashing in the water, which felt nice, like jumping in a freezer to cool off.
I remember seeing him earlier when he first arrived. I caught him staring at me from the gates of Alexandria. I had been sitting on the porch of the house I often spent time in, considering it was where my current boyfriend, Ron Anderson, lived.
The boy came into my house with Ron, limping a little, which made me remind myself to schedule him an appointment with the doctor later. It would probably do him some good, I thought. He looked at me, with piercing blue eyes, the color of ice, and said "Hi, I'm Carl." His voice was the third thing I noticed. It was angelic, like the flow of the ocean at night. It soothes me, like I was a little child again, which was a little embarrassing, but I let it happen because there was no use fighting it.
"This is Enid." Ron said, pointing at me.
I looked Carl in the eyes and smiled. Those beautiful, icy eyes.
