I take a gulp of my water as I watch out the window. Human kids were riding on their bicycles and playing hopscotch. There are the teen vampires of the town just standing there, talking. The humans know about the vampires. However, everyone outside of our town knows nothing about our town's inhabitants.

My parents are vampires, but I was born unexplainably human.

"Lissi!" My mother calls me from the kitchen. From the living room, I walk into the kitchen with my water. My father was also in there.

"So," My father begins, "I understand you are going out with Cal tonight, is that right?"

I nod slowly, raising an eyebrow. My parents both exchange happy glances. "What..?" I ask.

"We are just happy you are spending time with vampires, like Cal", My mother giddily replies. She is a bit perkier than normal, but she has always had high energy.

Yeah, Cal is a vampire, and I am not. The Head of the Council thought it was weird fluke, and it was - since I am the only human ever born to vampires. My parents have always talked to me about being changed into a vampire, since the Council was willing to let the unspoken rule to be broken.

No humans are allowed to be killed or changed. This is a documented rule, rarely mentioned, but it is understood throughout the township. I made it clear to my parents that I was not interested in changing anytime soon. I did not have a preference of being either, but I have grown up being human. I'm about to turn nineteen, so I am fairly comfortable considering that I have gone this long without being a vampire.

"Alright, weirdos." I leave my drink on the kitchen table, walking away. "I'm going to go get ready now." I take a glance at the clock and smile. Only one hour until my date with Cal.

Even though Cal and I have been dating for about eight months, I still get the butterflies as if we are about to go on our first date. Over the past eight months, we have gotten incredibly close. I have had boyfriends in the past, but none as amazing as him. Cal has dark brown hair, slightly curly. When he isn't hungry for blood, his eyes are an electric blue that pierce through me. I've only seen his eyes turn red once, and he left me alone pretty quickly when that happened. He does not like to feel hungry around me, just to be safe.

When I get upstairs into my bedroom, I enter my walk-in closet. I feel a bit lost about what to wear, so I do what I normally do and call Jacqui. She's a vampire that has been my best friend since we were three years old.

"Allo?" Jacqui's voice answered.

"Hey, I need your sense of fashion right now.", I reply to her with a chuckle.

"Little black dress - the one that hits right above the knee. Pair that with black, block heels. Don't forget jewelry. You're going to the new Italian restaurant in town, right?"

"Uh-huh, yeah. Then we are going back to Cal's house." I tell her.

"Great, that'll be so gorgeous. Bye!"

She hangs up and I start digging out all that she ordered me to wear.

When I finally put it all together, it does look amazing. I put on some makeup, trying to achieve a natural but glow-y look. I bounce my hair a little bit to put some volume in my naturally straight hair.

I glance at my cellphone. Only five minutes until Cal will be here to pick me up in his car, a new Mercedes-Benz to be exact. Most vampires in this town have a lot of money, as this town was originally founded by vampires.

Sitting down, I start tapping my leg. It is what I do when I get nervous. I get up and grabbed my diamond swirl cocktail ring off my vanity and slid it on my middle finger. I look at the clock. "7:29".

I walk downstairs, smiling gently to myself because I am amused that I feel so nervous. I sit down on the couch, twirling a strand of my hair. I jump up when the doorbell rings.

Cal's here!
