After working the breakfast, lunch, and rush hour shifts at the cafe, Izuku is dead on his feet. He catches a bus that'll bring him back to his street and walks the rest of the way home. As soon as he enters, he flops down on his sofa. Izuku has three hours to sleep before his next patrol. He'll see if he can get off the rush hour shift tomorrow. He yawns and closes his eyes.

Izuku wakes up in his old bedroom, the bare walls attempting to suffocate him. The room is empty except for a few blankets that he sleeps on. His door bursts open and his mom comes in, drunk per usual.

"Izuku, take your useless butt down to the store and get me a few things. And don't forget to clean the bathroom, do the laundry, and wash the dishes. Got it? You have to start pulling your weight around here."

"Yes, mommy," Izuku says.

His mother strikes him across the cheek.

"Brat! I told you not to call me that! It's your fault your daddy left and I would have left, too, if it wasn't for your useless ass. Now, get moving!"

Tears beginning to well up in his eyes, Izuku runs out of his room and into the kitchen. He grabs the list off the fridge and heads to the store, wanting to get as far away from his mother as possible.

People in the store look at him with a mix of pity and disapproval. A seven-year-old shouldn't have to go to the store by himself. A seven-year-old shouldn't have a bright pink bruise beginning to blossom on his cheek. Izuku looks at the list and it's just the bare essentials. He knows if he gets any more than what's on the list, he'll be punished.

He starts to walk home from the store when he hears a commotion from an alley. He puts his head down and keeps on walking. What's a quirkless kid like him supposed to do, anyway?

"Help! Please, anyone, help!" a voice calls from the alley.

Screw it!

Izuku runs down the alley and sees a large man hovering over a teenage boy.

"Get away from him!" he shouts.

"Ha ha ha. Looks like somebody wants to play hero," the villain chuckles and turns to face him. The villain backs up from the teen who turns tail and runs, leaving Izuku alone in the alley with the large man. Uh-oh.

The villain starts to get closer to him. Izuku's feet are frozen even though he is trying desperately to move.

"It's no use, kid. You're stuck there until I look away."

Oh, no. This isn't good!

"Help!" Izuku does the only thing he can think of at the moment and screams.

"We won't be having any more of that!" the man says and covers his mouth with his hand. "Sadly, you will have to replace the other boy that ran away. There's no way for you to escape me!"

He closes the distance between them and grabs Izuku's wrists harshly. He pushes the boy up against the wall. He takes out a knife and starts carving into him. Blood drips down Izuku's arms and he collects it. Izuku screams and screams, but any noise he makes is muffled by the man's hand. He is about to pass out when the villain finally stops.

"This should be enough," he says, holding a bottle full of blood that he took from Izuku. "Thanks for being my little blood bank. The boss will appreciate it."

He turns away and Izuku collapses to the ground. The boy looks at his arms which are all cut up, and his especially bad wrists. Through his muddled brain, he is only able to form a few coherent thoughts: Why didn't anyone help him? Is it because he's quirkless? Is he not worth saving?
