The Universe is Our Poetry

I am here for me, I am here for you

for so many years
i thought
the very purpose
of my writing is
to touch a soul and
be a place of warmth
to someone who may be
in the dark

while that is true
these days
it's becoming clearer to me
that i write mostly because
i wanted to have
a conversation with myself

i wanted to be her soundboard
her cheerleader
her encouragement
her safe zone

and the person who
i would like to show up
for myself
is the same person
i hope would show up
for other people
who are going through
the emotions and seasons
as i am

maybe
that's why
i write

to become a friend
to myself
and to anyone who
takes comfort in words
