Part 10

You all must have complained that when everything is alright, when life is on track after so long, why can't we be happy? Why do we have to face problems? Haven't you said it atleast once in front of the scriptures we refer to God?

Well, that was what Suman is saying in her mind constantly after attending the phone call when she was at PCT.

Flashback...

Suman: Preeta jaldi kar delivery dopahar me krni h, agle hafte nhi, kitna time lgaegi..

Preeta: Ha Sumo kr to rhi hu...

(Suman's phone rang. She thought it was of Shravan and without seeing she picked it up.)

Suman: Ha Shravan, mil gyi case se fursat aur aa gyi meri yaad?

Caller: (chuckling) Aree re, tumhari yaad to kab nhi aati mujhe?

(Suman's expression changed. Sweat buds began to form on her forehead. Her phone was going to leave its destination but then she managed to hold it. She went to the store room of PCT so that no one can hear him.)

Suman: T...tu...tum?

Caller: Arre arre Suman ji, itni pyaari awaz me baat kr rhi thi abhi, ek dum se kya ho gya...Acha acha, hmari jaga Shravan ko smjha tha aapne, koi baat nhi, use bhi aapse dur rkhenge, ab to theek hai na?

Suman: Sochna bhi mt...sm..smjhe tum. Agar Shravan ko ek kharoch bhi aayi, to m tumhe chhodungi nhi, smjhe!

Caller: Sorry sorry, m to darr gya, koi baat nhi, abhi thoda aur jeene dete h use, mene to tumhe ye yaad dilane ke liye phone kia tha ki 2 din baad saal ka mera favourite din h, tumhe to yaad hi hoga...nhi?

Suman: (gulping) Na mujhe...kuch yaad h...na...na mujhe kr...krna h, smjhe tum!

Caller: Kya? Tum bhul gyi? Chalo koi baat nhi, yaad to m tumhe dila hi dunga. Ab kya h na ki 2 saal ho gye h, uss raat ko, to phir yaad bhi kese rhega. Pichle do saalo se tumhari waja se aur tumhare uss chamche Pushkar ki waja se police mujhpe nazar bnaye hue thi. Aur uss Ramnath ne apni power ka fayda utha kr mujhe faswa diya tha, pr ab m inn sb chonchlo se free hu. Ab sare adhure hisaab chuka dunga, theek h na?

Suman: Tum...tum esa kuch...nhi kroge....

Caller: Ek baat yaad rkhna Suman, agar ye baat dono Malhotras ko pta chli, to unn dono ke saath saath ye jo tumhara love interest h na, uski bhi ticket ktwa dunga. Agar tum inki shok sabha me nhi baithna chahti, to chup rehna aur 2 din baad mere btae address pe aa jana, smjhi.

(Before Suman could say anything, the line disconnected.)

(Suman was in the park which she used to go whenever she was sad, happy or frustrated.)

Suman (in her mind): Kya kru? Hr baar to Pushkar ya to Ramnath uncle sambhal lete the, jese mene uss din himmat ki thi, kuch to krna padega, pr kya m uss darr ko harake usse muqabala kr paungi? M Shravan ki jaan pe koi khatra nhi lana chahti...kya kru!!! Kuch to btao ma-papa!!

(She put both of her hands on her head and closed her eyes. She saw Shravan's smiling face in front of her eyes. A lone tear manages to drop down her eyes.)

Suman: Mujhe ye krna hi hoga...mujhe pta h wo mujhe waha zarur apne kaam ke liye hi bula rha hoga...Agar koi aur hota to shayad m fir bhi thodi bold ho kar sb kr leti, pr yaha wo kuch bhi kr skta h, aur uska example bhi wo dikha chuka h tbhi...Sorry Shravan, mere liye koi bhi tumse zyada zaruri nhi h...khud m bhi nhi.

(Suman called Shravan.)

Shravan: Hnji, boliye..

Suman: (trying her best to sound normal) Kaha ho? Kya kr rhe ho?

Shravan: Office me hu, bs ghr hi ja rha hu.

Suman: Mil skte h kya?

Shravan: okay, bolo kaha ho?

Suman: Khud dhoondlo.

(After 20 mins, both were sitting on the bonnet of his car and eating ice cream from the van near the park. Suman was eating less and staring Shravan more. She came back to her senses when she heard him.)

Shravan: Aaj achanak kya hua, kis baat se pareshan ho?

Suman (in mind): Kyu itna ache se jaante ho mujhe Shravan? Mat jano mujhe itna ki m tumse jhut na bol pau...

Suman: M, aur pareshan? Nhi to?

Shravan: Madam aap shayad bhul rhi h ki m aapki rag rag se wakif hu. Tum ice cream, wo bhi black currant, sirf tbhi khati ho jb tum pareshan ho. Ab jldi se btao kya hua? Aur aaj yaha park me bhi ese shaant se bethi hui thi? Hmesha to aate hi bacho ke saath khelne lgti ho..

Suman: Tum na apna ye lawyer wala dimaag zyada mt chalao, wo to aaj m PCT me kaam krke thak gyi thi isliye hi m waha bethi hui thi aur wo ice cream subah se khane ka mann tha sirf isliye..

(Shravan nodded and then both continued to gulp down their ice creams, they had some chats regarding their day. Suman didn't want this day to end. She wanted to stay with Shravan forever.)

(2 days passed in a blur. Today was the day when Suman had to face her past like every 2 years before she did. The only difference was that she, this time, wanted to end this case forever and live freely and happily.)
