At first, I didn't want to go to school but I was already a lead in my friend's murder, and skipping school would only make me more suspicious. Also, the fact I could barely go more than 10 minutes without crying. That morning, I had gotten a call from Tatum, asking if I wanted a ride to school with her and Dewey.

As I got out of the police car I was immediately surrounded by cameras. Anytime I tried to move it seemed as though there was always someone trying to take my picture or ask as out of pocket question. Tatum and Dewey finally got the crowd to go away, when I saw someone in a bright yellow suit walking towards me from the corner of my eye.

" Hi I'm Gale Wethers, I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions about what happened the other night."

I was very aware of who Gale Wethers was. A year ago when Sydney's mother had died, Gale made it her job to be the bitch who made Sydney's life even more hard and say the man who was arrested for killing her mother was innocent. A little over two years ago she also wrote a book on my little sister's death.

" Oh Gale I could barely tell it was you from how bright your outfit is today," I said sarcastically. " So how's the book coming?"

She had written a book on y/s/n's death which she had made half the book up on her own. My sister was a good person.

" Oh fine! What did you think of it?" She asked in a sympathetic voice.

" Sorry, I never got to it. I was really busy around that time."

" Oh, I know. You should try and read it sometime, it might make you change your mind about-"

I couldn't bring myself to let her finish what I knew she was about to say.

"Ok, I will!" I interrupted, trying to sound as sincere as possible.

I walked quickly to my locker, already feeling my emotions building. I couldn't handle all the memories that haunted my mind from the last few days. I already had a constant image of Casey's body hanging from that tree. Now images from my sister's accident were popping up too.

" Hey." Someone softly said from behind me. I turned to see Sydney with the same pitying look I have gotten for two years now. She raised her hand and softly squeezed my arm,

" Are you okay y/n?"

" Yeah, yeah I'm fine," I lied.

" Are you sure?" She asked lightly touching the bandage covering my cut.

" Yes, Sydney I'm going to be fine," I said grabbing her hand away from my cut and squeezing it a little. Tatum walked up beside Sydney with the same expression Sydney had,

" Y/n you didn't have to be here today. No one would've blamed you if you didn't, you've been through so much already."

" Tatum really, I'm fine," I said reaching into my locker for my English notebook. " I can't stay in my room forever isolating myself from reality. That's no way to recover."

They both exchanged a small glance but nodded their heads. Either way, I hated when people pitied me. I got it plenty when my sister died and I found that pity only makes it harder to move on. When someone asks about it or looks at you as if you're about to break at any minute, it only reminds you what you've tried so hard to forget.

" Our girl is back!" I heard from behind me. Tatum looked over my shoulder and rolled her eyes at her boyfriend. Stu and Billy both came walking over toward us to join the group. Stu pulled me into a big hug and whispered in my ear,

" How's my girl feeling?"

I reached my arms around his torso and squeezed him softly, " I'm fine."

He slowly pulled his arms away, looking at my tired face. He gave me a small reassuring smile while his eyes kept darting to the bandage on my jaw. He quickly looked at Billy before walking over and putting his arm around Tatum.

I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked over to see Billy giving me a worried look. Everyone knew Billy wasn't one for showing affection in front of others, so this was enough to know he did care. I looked up at him threw my eyelashes and gave him a sad smile. He did the same and looked at my bandage. He took his hand away from my shoulder and looked at Stu with a weird look in his eyes.

" So that's it? The police are just gonna send you back to school and expect you to act like nothing happened?" Tatum asked.

" Well, the police didn't find anything evidence that connected me to what happened to Casey and I can't just not go to school."

" Yeah but surely they would've let you have at least two weeks off or something." Sydney stated.

" I don't know," I answered truthfully. " You know how Principle Hembry is."

" Yeah, he's a total perv!" Stu bunted in.

" Do the police have any leads?" Billy asked. Everyone nodded in agreement.

" They wouldn't tell me anything." An awkward silence fell over the group.

" What happened to you Y/n," Sydney softly asked. " How did you get the cut on your jaw?" I instinctively brushed my fingers over it.

" Oh I landed on a glass table at Casey's house and the glass went everywhere."

Billy's eyes became a bit darker. Stu was very interested in the floor but glances up every few seconds at Billy.

I didn't even realize we had been walking until I saw my English classroom.

" Ok well, I need to get to class. I'll see you all at lunch."

" Of course!" Sydney responded happily.

When I sat in my seat staring out the window, memories of the other night flashed through my head. So when it was my turn to get interrogated by the police once again, I didn't have to think of what to say.
