Chapter 35 - Spot's POV on a Brooklyn Day After the Strike

Start from the beginning

"Love you too." Spot responds, placing Dozy's dry hat on the ground next to him.

Dozy looks at the hat, before glaring up at Spot again. "You saved my hat, but nothing else?" He asks him, annoyed.

Spot smirks, crossing his arms. "Yes." He answers.

Dozy rolls his eyes, grabbing the hat and standing up. "At least I don't have to shower today." He mutters.

Spot leans closer to him for a second, before quickly moving away. "Uh, no." He chuckles sarcastically. "You smell horrible, go shower." He tells him.

Dozy rolls his eyes, walking back into the Brooklyn Lodge.

Spot waves at the fifteen-year-old, laughing to himself.

Ace stands next to him. "Good morning." He smiles.

Spot looks over at him. "Morning, Ace." He greets.

"How are you this morning?" Ace asks curiously.

"I'm alright." Spot answers. "You?" He asks.

Ace shrugs.

Spot looks around for a moment, before looking at him. "Can you go remind them that we only have ten minutes left till we have to be at the Distribution center?" He asks his Second in Command.

The blonde-haired Brooklyn Second nods, walking into the Lodge.

Spot smiles to himself as he looks over the water. He always liked the view in the morning.

Spot slips his pimp-cane back into his belt-loop.

He heard chaos and shouting from inside the Brooklyn Lodge, causing him to groan softly.

Alright. It's time to go lead my Newsies.

Spot turns and starts walking into the Brooklyn Lodge.

"Hey! Shut your traps or you're getting thrown into the water and no one is waiting for you to get dry! I don't care if you sell in wet clothes!" (Which is a lie.)

And just like that, all of the Brooklyn Newsies were silent.

Later in the day

"Smokes!" Spot calls from his perch.

The Brooklyn Third looks up at him, along with Spade and Pebbles, who he had been speaking with. "Yes, Spot?" Smokes asks.

"Where's your boyfriend?" Spot asks.

Usually, he'd be smirking as he asked this, but he was genuinely worried about Ace at the moment.

Smokes' cheeks reddened slightly. "He's-" his voice cracks, causing the color of his cheeks to darken. "he's at Sheepshead." He informs Spot.

Slightly confused by this answer, Spot looks at him, his head titled to the side slightly. "Why?" He asks.

Smokes shrugs. "Something about betting with Race, talking to him about something, and having an interaction with him that isn't all teasing him and throwing him off of the dock." He explains.

Spot nods. "Alright. Can someone let me know when he's back?" He asks.

Smokes nods. "We'll go ask DD and Catch." He states.

Spot nods. "Thanks, Smokes."

Smokes nods again, walking off with Pebbles and Spade.

Spot's eyebrows furrow slightly. What could Ace want to talk to Race about? He wonders.

Spot shrugs it off. It's probably nothing.

He looks around, enjoying the quiet that was unusual in his Borough.

And like usual, it didn't last long.

"Spot!"

Spot almost groans. "Yes?!" He shouts back.

"Trips tripped and is bleeding a lot and Mallie almost threw up because he doesn't like blood!"

Spot sighs deeply to himself. "Alright, I'm coming!" He shouts back, swinging his legs over the side of his perch and starting to climb down.

"How did Trips get hurt?" Spot heard Cloths shout as he ran to grab bandages.

"He fell off of the side of the Lodge!"

Spot closes his eyes as he stops climbing for a second. He exhales slowly. Why- how- what- guys-

"He was dared." Rags mutters as he walks away from Trips, helping a sick looking Mallie walk.

Spot sighs deeply to himself.

Of course he was.
