Chapter 9

"Yeah I'll handle mom. I gotta learn this playbook" Spencer said as Jaaliyah pointed out characters in Dillion's comic book

"You went to the comic book store?" Spencer asked

"Your friend Shawn hooked me up. You know, he seems cool" Dillion said as Spencer snatched the comic book out of his hands.

"Look at me. He's not my friend and he's not cool, Ight? Don't let me ever hear you talking to him again. You understand me?" Spencer said as he got in Dillion's face. Jaaliyah pushed Spencer back on the couch, not liking how he got in the younger boys face, and gently placed her hands on Dillion's cheeks

"Listen D, Shawn will look out for you and protect you because he knows you're important to me but that doesn't mean other people in the neighborhood will. If Shawn comes back don't panic just text me or Spencer and remain calm. Shawn has a good heart but he hangs around bad people is what Spencer meant." Jaaliyah explained to Dillion.

She knew how it felt to be blindsided and only told what to do without & explanation. She felt as if kids didn't hear a reason behind why you're telling them no, tits a higher chance hey're gonna end up doing it.

"Look I'm sorry. I'm not mad you a'ight?" Spencer said as Dillion nodded. Spencer got up and walked to the door

"Where you going?" Dillion asked

"To make sure Shawn leaves you the hell alone." Spencer said and walked out. Jaaliyah looked at Dillion

"I gotta go make sure he doesn't get hurt so in the mean time just lock the door and don't answer it for nobody. Only answer if you know them." Jaaliyah said then ran out the house.

"I gotta start eating regularly. I'm doing all this running and i do not feel good" Jaaliyah thought

📍At the park

Jaaliyah was still some ways behind Spencer. She was drained mentally and physically & just wanted to lay down somewhere.

"AYE!" Spencer yelled

"Headed in the wrong direction? Rodeo drive is the other way." Shawn said. Jaaliyah was a little bit behind to the point were they couldn't see her but she could hear them. She stopped to catch her breath not understanding why she was tired.

"Leave my brother alone a'ight?" Spencer said speaking to Shawn

"I was just offering the kid a little community kindness thats all." Shawn shrugged

"Stop playing like you something you not Shawn. You're the worst part of what this community is." Spencer stated

"Hey watch yourself" Shawn warned

"You're the same piece of nothing you were in grade school you know that? You'll always be nothing." Spencer stated. All of a sudden Jaaliyah heard the gate shake, indicating someone had hit it, so she got up and forced herself to turn around the corner despite the pain she was in.

"You wanna come at me? Come at me!" Shawn said as one of his people pulled a gun out. Jaaliyah quickly jogged over there mad because everyone knew that the James family weren't to be fucked with at all.

"Fall back." Jaaliyah said showing her gun. They hesitated and didn't put the gun back not knowing if they should listen to her or Shawn.

"Oh so you think I'm playing ." Jaaliyah put her gun to his head

"I said fall back." He eventually put his gun away and Coop was there now cause Dillion called her. She put her gun away and felt my legs get weak all of a sudden. She collapsed into Shawns arms.

"Damn it. Aye get that chicken out the car, NOW!" Shawn demanded laying his girlfriend down on the ground but providing her head support.

"Come on Mamas stay with me" Shawn said slightly and gently tapping her face so she could stay alert.

His guys brought the food to him.. Shawn took a piece of chicken out and pieced it up. He then put it by his girlfriends mouth but she didn't open her mouth

"Open." He said and Jaaliyah shook her head not wanting to eat it

"Come on you gotta eat. Now open." Shawn said. Jaaliyah opened her mouth and he put the food in. She started chewing then leaned her head to the side

"You better not spit it out or else you're gonna have to take another bite" he said and she rolled her eyes swallowing the food as Shawn picked her up. Coop was taking care of Spencer as they watched me. Shawn opened his car door and sat her in the seat

"Where you trying to go?" Shawn asked

"I need to go to mama Grace house then to Tyrone. I can't drive my car cause my legs are weak so I'll just walk over there in the morning and get it." Jaaliyah said as Shawn got in the car

After 30 minutes they finally were at Tyrone's house. Jaaliyah thanked Shawn then walked in the house and closed the door behind her. Soon, a little girl ran up to Jaaliyah hugging her legs.

"Awee I missed you too Kaliah" Jaaliyah said and hugged her back
