However I felt fine now and I felt terrible that Xavier had to worry about all of our living expenses.

I planned to talk to him about me finding a job soon.

Hopefully next year I would be able to plan something even more special with my own money.

Finally it was time. Xavier was at the door.

The chef, the maids, and Dorothy had all left already. It was just Xavier and I now.

As soon as Xavier walked in I went into his open arms.

“Happy Birthday Xavier”

“Thank you my love.”

I felt sad that I wasn’t able to greet him this morning to tell him happy birthday. But I had no idea he planned to work today.

My plan was to wake up earlier than him and make him breakfast. But by the time my alarm went off, Xavier was already gone.

He had left me a note saying he left for work. He later texted me and explained he had an important meeting he couldn’t miss and I understood.

I helped him take off his blazer and we headed to the dining room.

“Surprise!” I said.

There were plates of food and a medium sized cake I had made, all laid out on the table.

“You made my favorite food.” Xavier was smiling.

He seemed really happy.

As we sat down to eat I could see how content Xavier was.

“I haven’t eaten this in years. It tastes amazing. Thank you my love.”

He grabbed my hand and kissed it.

I had called Caroline and asked her what Xavier’s favorite food was and she had told me it was a dish their mom used to prepare for them.

“Chef Jacob helped me. I didn’t want to mess it up.”

I knew how to cook but I wasn’t that good. I would have felt terrible if the food tasted bad. I knew if I asked the chef’s help it would be a lot better.

“But I did make the cake all by myself though. It’s chocolate, your favorite.”

“Thank you so much for all of this my love.”

He lightly squeezed my hand and smiled.

We talked about his childhood and mine.

I learned that he had always been extremely smart as a child. He had been valedictorian in high school and it was clear he was very popular with the ladies.

He talked about trips him and his family had taken. I learned a thing or two about Caroline and some of her most embarrassing moments.

Every time I learned more about Xavier I couldn’t help but fall more in love with him.

We finished eating and it was time to cut the cake.

I began to sing the happy birthday song and then I made Xavier make a wish.

He closed his eyes and then blew the candle.

“I really hope my wish comes true.”

When he spoke he sounded so sincere. I couldn’t help but be curious about what he had wished for.

I grabbed a knife and I cut a slice for Xavier and then one for me.

I was about to sit on my seat when I felt Xavier pull me back. I was now sitting on him.
