Jessica's POV

"Jess!" Hannah called me from across the street, and I smiled. Hillary wasn't here yet - but then again she never was. Hannah ran across the street and we walked down the path towards the school gates.

"I'm guessing Hillary's not here?" Hannah asked.

"is she ever? No, she's late like usual. And for the first day after the announcement of the school dance, she's probably with the other begging girls at the Bon-Bon."

"I hate the Bon-Bon. They're probably thinking about what it would feel like to go with one of the One Directions,"

"hey, do you know what there doing?"

I turned to her, glared, before we both burst out laughing. "'course not!"

We walked to lockers and I checked my diary.

"urg," I sighed. "Maths and RS."

"at least we have RS with Miss Bren."

"yeah," I thought.

I looked around. The locker room was almost completely empty, as everyone would be hanging out at The Bon-Bon.

The Bon-Bon was the sweet shop halfway between the girl's dorm and the boy's dorm. It was a major hang out, but Hannah and I preferred not to go because it was always crowded with whore's.

Yesterday the assembly - also held with boys and girls - had announced the year 7 school dance. Hannah and I hadn't planned on getting dates - we didn't have any boyfriends or, for that matter, know any boys - but the girls like Hillary were ecstatic.

Hillary knew loads of boys. She may be like that but she wasn't all that annoying - she was usually really good fun. Unfortunately though, she was always late.

Hannah had thick black hair and brown eyes to match, with black skin. She wore glasses and was kind, but she sort of had a dark streak that I enjoyed bringing out of her. She was also a complete bookworm.

Hillary had straight blond hair in a bob. She had kind brown eyes and was a complete flirt. Other than that and her obsession with boy bands and the 'cool kids' we were too alike for our own good.

I had shoulder length brown hair and sea-blue eyes, but I was a goth. I loved writing and laughed at things that people would think were insane.

Our places in the group of friends: Hannah, sensible and fun. Hillary: outgoing and posh. Me: evil and insane. In a good way.

I'd never really thought of myself as pretty - no one does. Hillary's a little vain, but she doesn't really say it. I don't think Hannah's ever thought about it.

We were all a bunch of kids in a grown up world, and none of us were ready for when they came.

We packed our bags and went up to the form room. It was empty and alone. Hannah got our her book and I wrote my story in my special black book.

It was 20 minutes before we were disturbed by a panting Hillary. She sat on the table next to Hannah and swung her bag onto her desk.

"so, how was the Bon-Bon?" I asked.

"what?"

"weren't you there?"

"no! I mean, I would of been, but I was too busy helping my mum clean the driveway."

I laughed. "so you haven't a date yet?"

"have you?"

I stared at her. "Hillary, I don't know anybody. Hannah and I plan on going together and not giving the boys a second glance."

"Just because you don't know anyone doesn't mean you won't get asked to the dance," Hillary stuttered.

I stared at her. "I'll probably refuse them anyway. Hillary, I don't want a boyfriend."

"I was just saying," Hillary growled.

Hannah slammed her book shut.

"don't start an argument, Hillary. She'll only give you the silent treatment and she's the master of that."

I crossed my arms. "since when?"

"since ever. Come on, guys."

She went back to reading her book and I went back to writing my story. I hadn't noticed the room had been filling, and Hillary went to talk.

All to soon Mr. Pam came in.

"Alright, girls. Get off your phones and shut up. Hillary, off the desk. You're chairs are there to be sat on!"

He smiled in a playful way and everyone scooted.

"alright, girls. You're free to go."

I smiled as I made my way to Maths. Hannah and Hillary debated whether Mary was going to get pregnant.

I smiled as Hillary got hit by a snowball. Hannah got hit too and they both chased the culprit, Hillary's friend Katy.

So far, so normal.
