Alex

I sat in my spinny desk chair at home, staring at my phone. She hadn't called, and she said she would. I put my phone facedown, and swiveled away from it. Who was I kidding? I picked it up and clicked home screen. No missed calls.

Where was she? What was so important that she had to stay till 5:30? Rosie was a perfect student, straight A's, and she never earned anything close to a detention. Plus, it was her off day from helping Robert with math. My mind paced. Why was I so worried? Why couldn't I just trust her?

Because of Austin, my brain reminded me. Rosie used to have a thing for Austin back in freshman year. He never knew, and she might even still like him. And where is that going to put me.

"Shut up, stop torturing yourself," I muttered, "Rosie's your girlfriend, you need to be able to trust her."

Just like that, my phone rang. 'Baby you light up my world like nobody else," My phone sang loud and proud.

The caller ID was Rosie, and I quickly hit the green button. "Hello," I said smoothly.

"Hey Alex." She sounded out of breath.

"Where are you, babe?" I cut to the chase.

She was quiet for a second. "I'm almost home. I was helping out at the library earlier, and when I was leaving, Austin found me, and we're walking together."

"You could if just called me, I would've picked you up." There was obvious jealousy in my voice. I cleared my throat, "It's snowing out."

I could hear her smile through the phone. "I know, isn't it great?" I pictured her twirling around in the snow. I smiled a little at the thought. "So what time so you want me to come over?"

My smile widened. "Whenever you can, Rosie Posie."

She groaned. "Alex... Don't call me that!"

I laughed. "Alright you. I'll see you when I see you?"

"Yep!" She giggled through the phone.

"I love you." I said into the phone. To my despair, the line was already dead.

Austin

"The weather outside is frightful," I sang, holding Rosie's hand, "And the fire is so delightful.."

"And since we no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow." She responded in her clear soprano voice.

"You're a beautiful singer," I kissed her forehead.

"As are you, Mahone." She smiled, and I wrapped my arms around her waist.

"You should try out for the spring production this year."

"What is it?" Our feet crunched in the snow.

"Romeo and Juliet," She stated simply.

"I'll try out for Romeo, if you try out for Juliet." I said teasingly.

"Good thing we have chemistry." She grinned.

"We have more than just chemistry," I smiled, "We have the real thing."

She shook her head, unable to hide her smile. "Oh, you silly boy." She wrapped her arms around my neck. "Whatever am I going to do with you?" She sighed.

I brought her face to mine. "You can kiss me, Rose." I didn't wait for her, I swooped my lips in. She tasted like strawberries, the sweet, ripe, red ones, with sugar.

I pulled her closer, she hoisted herself up, wrapping her legs around my waist. I held her to me tightly, making sure she didn't fall. Her fingers played with the hair at the nape of my neck. Little bubbles of pleasure popped throughout my body.

"When," I breathed.

Rosie looked at me curiously. "What are you talking about?" She asked softly.

"When are we going to tell Alex?"

She went a little rigid. "When do you want to tell him, Austin?" There was a slight tremble in her voice.

"Today," I whispered, "Tonight."

Rosie stepped out of my reach. "Why? Why now?"

I took her hand, her warm and tender flesh pressed against mine. "The last thing you need to do is lead him on, it's best to let him know." I moved to hug her, but she placed a hand on my chest.

"I'll do it tomorrow, okay?" She tilted her head up.

"But I want to help."

"You can help by letting me do this on my own. I'm Alex's girlfriend, and you are not, Mahone." Rosie smiled wistfully at me.

"You are so unegotiable when you want to be." I laughed as we arrived in front of her house.

She blushed. "I know.."

I pinched her cheeks. "I love you," I whispered in her ear.

She kissed me softly on the lips. "I love you too, mister." I let go of her hand, and she walked up her driveway and into her house. I just stood there like a smitten idiot, my hands shoved in my pockets. I smiled to myself, making a beeline for Robert's.
