Chapter Four: Back In Action

Start from the beginning

"Dank Farrik!" Wrecker yelled as the lizard took another slash at him, causing him to retreat until his back was against Tech and Cass.

"Get away!" Cass drew her lightsaber and ignited it, the green blade illuminating the small crevice of the valley. "Tech, find me a weak spot!"

Cass jumped over the Scyk and drew it's attention away from the rest of the group. She narrowly escaped it's sharp claws and unrelenting attacks.

"Beneath the largest scale on its head is a fleshy area, hit it there!" Tech called out, his heart racing as he watched.

"Hunter!" Cass called out and with one look, the trooper immediately caught on to the plan. With the lizard's tail facing the group, he ran up the animal's back and landed on its neck, swinging one leg on each side. He released a long cable wire from his wrist and grasped the ends in his hands. He laced the wire around the mouth, barely managing to wrangle it.

The beast kept hitting the sides of the valley, causing rocks from above to rain down. Cass was narrowly avoiding both the slashes of the lizard and the large chunks of rock aiming for her. The largest boulder of all came tumbling down quickly, so Cass jumped out of the way and attempted to land beside the lizards head.
In one motion, the lizard slashed Cass' leg as she was in the air, and she swung her lightsaber to slice the animal's hand clean off. Cass yelped as she landed and the animal bucked, almost throwing Hunter off the side.

"Cass!" Tech called out.

"I'm fine," she gritted her teeth and readjusted her grip on her lightsaber.

"Just cut off the other leg!" Echo called out.

"There's no use in that because," Tech began as he watched the lizard's appendage grow back in a new form. "Because it can do that."

"Do it now! Lift the scale, Hunter!" Cass exclaimed.

"I'm trying to but this kriffing lizard won't hold still," Hunter groaned and used all his strength to adjust the cable. He lowered his hands just enough to hook the cable under the large scale, the pulled with all his might.

"Now!" Hunter yelled.

With a spin of her lightsaber, Cass held her blade perpendicular to the area of interest. She dug the lightsaber into the head of the lizard, causing the animal to fall to the ground with a thud. Cass pocketed her lightsaber and held a hand out to Hunter, helping him hop off the Scyk. They exhaled deeply, and took a moment to regain their composure.

"Nice work, Jedi," Hunter took off his helmet and held it at his hip, then sent Cass an approving grin.

She matched his smile, but it soon disappeared when she took a step forward. She groaned and caught herself, with Tech rushing to her side.

"Are you alright?" Tech examined her wound with a worried tone to his voice. Echo hurried over to her side and squatted beside Tech.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," she lowered herself to the ground with Tech's help and looked over the slash on her leg. A large slice was taken out of her right leg along her calf. "See? Not too bad."

"Not too bad?" Tech scoffed and began cleaning the wound, which caused her to flinch. She put a hand over his and stopped him where he was. Their eyes met and the same energy from before rushed through them both. Their hearts beat in sync, and Cass wished his face was just as exposed as hers. It was unfair that her blush was apparent while his was hidden by his helmet.

"Okay, maybe it's a little worse than I thought," Cass joked and Tech shook his head, which the girl found amusing.

He searched her eyes once more and shifted his hand under hers. "May I?"

She nodded and looked away as Tech gingerly cleaned and wrapped the wound. She turned to face Echo, who pretended not the notice the whole exchange, and gave an apologetic look.

"You're here one day and you're already getting hurt," Echo pursed his lips.

"Hey at least I'll have a cool scar," Cass played cooley.

"I'm serious," Echo said more sternly as he looked over Tech's shoulder. He saw Cass' face deflate a bit and felt a pang in his chest.

"With all due respect, she saved us," Wrecker interrupted from behind. "My blaster didn't do any damage so she took action. And it was pretty kriffing cool if you ask me," Wrecker cheered.

"Thanks Wrecker," Cass grinned. "I was trained for this, and not every little thing is going work out perfectly," Cass looked back at her wound and frowned. "I would think out of anyone, you should understand that."

"I do understand, I just," Echo paused, looking for the right words. "I just got you back, I don't wanna lose you again, ad'ika."

Cass nodded and knew she couldn't be too upset with him. It was a minor accident, but Rex reacted the same way when she came back to Coruscant with a relatively minor cut on her eyebrow. It was a big brother thing and they couldn't help it. And when she thought about it, she supposed it was better to have someone care too much than not at all.

"You can't get rid of me that easy," she threw his words back at him and Echo couldn't help but smile.

"All done," Tech finished bandaging her leg then held out a hand to help her up, and the way his gloved hand firmly grasped her own didn't go unnoticed by either party.

"You okay, kid?" Crosshair quietly appeared by her side as the squad started to band back together.

"Yeah I'm good, thanks," she smiled curtly at him and nodded, which he then returned.

"It'll make a nice scar someday," he leaned over and whispered with a smirk.

"Oh I'm counting on it."
