Recap:

"Its rude to ask my name before saying your name first."

Damn, she was perfect for a mate. I grinned, starting to like her already.

"I'm Jared. Jared Wolf."

Chapter Two

Nicole's POV

I looked at Jared Wolf. Well his name fit him perfectly. He was grinning like a wolf. He had the glint of mischievousness in his eye.

"Well Mr. Wolf, what are you doing here?"

"I always come to help Lee Anne around this hour. And you forgot to mention your name, pretty stranger."

I nearly blushed at his comment. He said it so smoothly without any hesitance. "I'm Nicole Harrison."

He stopped smiling. "Harrison? Like Mark Harrison, the ex husband of Lee Anne?" he asked.

I nodded. "You're Lee Anne's daughter?"

Again I nodded, confused by where his questions where going. He frowned and ran his hand through his hair.

I was going to ask him why he asked me all those things, but mom came up from the driveway shouting at us to come help her. After bringing the food into the kitchen, Jared left, not even saying a 'bye' to me. Although we weren't so close to even say bye, it was a nice thing to do, I thought convincing myself I wasn't over thinking it.

"Mom, who was that boy?" I asked.

"His name is Jared Wolf. He comes here to help around the house sometimes. He's a sweet boy."

"Why?" I asked curious.

"Why not?" she said. "Can't a young healthy boy help an old lady like me?"

I gave her a look and she laughed.

"Ok, I was lying. I guess it's because of that promise." Her attention was not on me anymore. I could tell because the look on her eyes told me that she was deep in thought. I rarely saw those eyes. It meant that she was thinking of dad. I always wondered why they got a divorce when they obviously still loved each other. But there was always a question of whether or not they really got divorced in the first place.

"Well are you going to stand there and not make dinner for us? I'm starving. All I had was the coffee earlier." I said trying to break her thoughts. It pained me to look at her like that.

"Oh yes! I almost forgot. Tonight I'm making your favorite. Spaghetti and meatballs," she said returning to her cheery self.

I smiled. "Great! That's what I wanted."

After dinner, mom told me that she could take me around the town if I wasn't so tired. I took her offer. Mom told me that the sun didn't set until eight thirty, so there was still time to squeeze before night fall came. We cruised around the town as mom explained every place we passed.

"This was the grocery store I was at before. It's very close so if you need something close, just walk here."

I nodded.

"There's a lot of strip malls here because the mall is like twenty minutes alway from here. I buy my clothes here all the time, especially in the thrift stores," mom said, slowing down into a stop against the red light. I glanced outside. I saw a group of people walking ahead of us.

"Where does Jared Wolf live?" I asked.

"Hmm...I think he lives just farther from where we are at if we were going to keep going straight. Why are you asking dear?"

"No reason," I said absentmindedly.

Mom didn't question it and started driving again. The crowd had walked further but in no time, mom passed by them. I stared out and my heart almost jumped when I realized that in the crowd, Jared was there, but what was even worse was that he too, caught my stare. Quickly I looked away and looked back. He wasn't looking. Maybe I was overthinking it? I thought. My mind wanders and thinks what it wants. He really hadn't noticed me, I convinced myself. My mind is playing games me with me. I nodded, convinced.

"Hey mom, I'm kind of tired. Can we go home now?"

"Sure honey," said mom. "I'll give you a tour of the town later. Just get some rest until tomorrow."

"Okay."

"Oh dear, I almost forgot!" mom said, startling me. "You have school tomorrow."
