The Seclusion

Day 1

2 am

I have finally received a signal from my realm-traveling machine, Lil Georgia never beeped louder. Oh, I'm so happy to find out that it actually works. My colleagues will be so jealous when I tell them all about it. A look on their faces will be truly priceless. It should take about 2 hours for the machine to show me the "other side". Perhaps I should already think about the name I will give my newly discovered realm, no, first I need to see how it looks. Still can't believe my dreams are coming true any minute now, it will be a piece of wonderful news for our university research.

5 am

The portal, it... opened, I think at least. It took Georgia a little bit longer than I anticipated, but she did it. I'm not sure what I'm looking at right now, it's something that's for sure. Looks like an awfully warm region. I can feel the heat even when I leave my laboratory. The rift opened in the sky by the looks of it. Probably 10 meters above the ground, the fall wouldn't be fatal, but it could do some harm. I see a lot of sand, most of the land is surprisingly pure sand. Can anyone even live there? What caught my attention is actually some kind of pylon. Many of them, in fact. They float in the air looking like they are kept there by some magical force. I can't see any boosters or propellers attached to them, it can't be our world. No creatures in sight, no visible movement, no life AT ALL. I should probably leave it as it is, no more screwing around it, I feel dizzy just by looking at it.

Day 2

There seems to be some kind of desert storm going on. The sand is starting to fly all over the place, a few grains of it even got into my working room. I should probably close it for some time, it would be dangerous to leave it open for this occurrence. I will leave Georgia at the same frequency for when I show this to my fellow scientists in 3 days. I must be patient, the dizziness didn't stop yesterday, I don't know if it has anything to do with the electromagnetic waves emanating from the rift, or I'm just exhausted from all the work. The important part is that this discovery will change the world we know forever.

Day 4

I tried hibernation to treat the headaches, unfortunately, it seems it didn't work. The machine looks fine, nothing happened as expected. One thing changed though, my pen disappeared from the desk. Maybe I just forgot where I put it or at least I hope so. Hibernation went fairly well. I still can't believe we invented this thing in such a small amount of time. After all, it was just a school project that turned out to be a huge industry success. It all started there. And look at us now, we are conquering whole new worlds, incredible. During the hibernation, I had astonishingly weird dreams, it was like I was on drugs, surreal to say the least. All the colors mixing together creating various shapes and materials. Most people would envy me for that experience, some would probably even try to kill for that. There was one object that I remember in detail. A green gem, emerald perhaps. It was gigantic, emanating all those hues of itself. It might worsen my dizziness a ton. Even though I feel awful, at this point I don't care about it, the progress is more important.

Day 5

I. Can't. Sleep. I've been up since yesterday. 24 hours of constant seeing those damn colors and hues. The ones from hibernation dreams. How come I keep seeing them while awake. They guide me towards Georgia, what do they want? I will open the portal before scientists get here. I need to look through the gateway.

I did it. I opened it again. Oh, it's so beautiful. The glorious sand, the dreadful yet fascinating pylons, and this atmosphere, how could someone create such a masterpiece. I have few hours before they arrive, but I don't want them to see this. I don't want them to share this view, this realm. I must keep it to myself.
