WHEN YOU SEE A CAT,
on the street you walk on everyday, it is sitting alone by a lamp post. What is your first instinct?
The cat is a stray. Alone with no friends, no home, no food or water.
So what do you do?
...You would help it, right?
I WONDER,
what makes us want to help something or someone that we see as "helpless".No one is obligating you to help that cat. But because you see it roaming around listlessly without anything to drink or eat, you automatically feel the need to provide it with some assistance.
But what if that cat doesn't want help?
What if it wants to survive in its own with no guidance?
Well, we wouldn't know that because cats can't fucking talk.
But still. If the cat wanted help, it would've asked in some way, shape or form. It didn't need some random human to butt in the way and do everything for it.
So why did we help it in the first place?
Is it to avoid guilt? Walking by a helpless cat without giving it the light of day, would be perceived as selfish and rude.
Or is it because we felt pitiful. Watching that cat made us feel sorry for it, so we decided to help it.
Maybe you were walking with a friend, and that friend told you to help it.
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME,
you helped someone? Why? Was it for one of those three reasons? If not, it was because you genuinely wanted to help someone. Which is good.
But for me, it's never been like that.
So I would let the cat be. If it wants me to help it, I will. I don't have a place to insert myself into its life.
SO THE CAT WALKS AWAY,
and it eventually dies. But it did not die in vain. It pushed through life with ambition—a purpose—and did what it could.
I am similar to the cat.
