One Day

(Tawn Hoffman)

What would we do with one day of peace?

Would we stretch it out and make it last?

Could we live together in harmony?

Drop old quarrels and forget the past?

If swords became plowshares,

       Could we all work together?

Could we share all we have

      With one another forever?

There are some who would say

“But I’m only one. I’d need others, too.”

But it begins with just one

It could start with just you.

Then I could join in

       And then we’d be two

And you could love me

       And I could love you

Then we could love others

       That’s where it begins

It could spread and grow bigger

We could change the world, friend!

What would we do with one day of peace?

Could we make it last and never end?
