Part II Chapter 9
It must be that fishes are always in a constant state of shock. You know, the whole underwater view being so stunning that they literally have no words for it. Key point here is the shock. Therefore I really feel like a fish now, minus all the glamour of sea life.
“What did you just say,” I gritted through my teeth. I had finally closed the hole in my mouth and was now trying, unsuccessfully, to twist my wrist out of his grip.
Jamie secured his hold, making it even harder for me to struggle.
“You’re next,” he repeated. He pushed the Bitch to the side, earning a little whine of protest from her. He tugged on my wrist, pulling me closer. He leaned in, his minty breath fanning over my less than delighted face.
“You’ve got personality. And the looks only add to the package.”
I growled an unintelligible response to which Jamie let out a chuckle. What the heck is wrong with this kid? Doesn’t he realize I was really angry at the moment? He must have a screw loose.
“You are now officially one of us,” Jamie exclaimed. There was silence. A second. Two seconds. Five seconds later:
“What the hell are you talking about?!” He gave me a look. A LOOK! He shouldn’t be giving ME a look. I should be giving HIM a look. I quickly did so, mentally berating myself on my idiotic mental berating.
“You are now one of us. As in part of the group. As in one of the Four, or should I say Five now that you’re included. So welcome, Winter, to the group,” Jamie grinned.
Now throughout this little monologue of his, I stood there looking at him, wiping all emotion off my face.
One of us. Three words that brought back a rush of unwanted memories from my past. A brother. Family. A group of runaway teens. Escapades. Fun and laughter. And the death of them all.
Jamie’s words were a dull echo, my brain registered the connotations, but I wasn’t really hearing him. I brought myself back to present. Jamie glanced at me confused, his eyes searching my face. His hand had released its grip on my wrist, probably because mine had become lax and a dead weight. I pushed blindly past him and made my way to my desk, swaying slightly, unsteady on my feet from the rush of memories. I sank into the cold metal chair and rested my head on my hand as I stared out the window.
I heard the commotion behind me, but I payed no attention. The world could end now and all I would see is the beautiful green scenery made up rain glazed grass and trees that were right outside my window view.
I felt my eyes burn, yearning for release in the form of tears. But they wouldn’t come out, no matter how I wanted them to. It was like I had been wrung dry. And so I could only sit there as my past barraged me with unwanted hurt.

Everything passed by in a blur. Matt and Gregory made an attempt to talk to me, but when I didn’t acknowledge their presence, they gave up and walked away. I could hear the whispers and feel the eyes, especially a particular pair that seemed to pierce through to my very soul. I felt paranoid but I knew who it was.
Bells rang, papers shuffled, classes began and ended, and before I knew it the whole school day was over. The dinging of the final bell had me pushing myself out of my seat in Physics and walking out into the whole, heading aimlessly towards my thought spot behind the school.
