No.20 (alternate ending!)

Start from the beginning

He let out a small breath before speaking up, wanting to clue Jay in on what had happened. He told her about the gang that Gillion had seen when the two of them were walking back from finishing restocking the Albatross. That Gillion remembered overhearing that the gang were known for thieving and violence on the island. How he was lecturing Gillion when he saw him get stabbed by a final guy the two hadn't noticed. How much it looked like Gillion was going to die...

"J-Jesus Christ, Chip...W-Well, at least that person was there when they were...I'm sure Gill is going to be fine. He's pretty stubborn..." Jay chuckled softly, stopping when she saw Chip continuing to look at Gillion.

"I-I can't lose anyone else, Jay...N-Not you, not Gill...No-one. I can't do that again...When I saw him get stabbed like that I...it was like I was watching Arlin get taken all over again, y'know? Like I was right back on the Black Rose..." He jumped slightly, feeling a sudden firm hand on his shoulder, looking to the side to see Jay.

"Hey. Nobody's leaving, okay? Gillion is fine. He's breathing...He's alive. And I'm definitely not going anywhere. Where else am I gonna go, huh? Back home? Screw that..." She grinned seeing Chip chuckle softly, patting him on the shoulder before taking a deep breath. "You look horrible, by the way...You should get a change of clothes and get some sleep. I've had a tiny bit of sleep anyways...I can stay here and keep an eye on Gill, okay?" Jay tilted her head, having to narrow her eyes when she saw Chip hesitate, this making him sigh and nod.

"F-Fine, fine. But you have to swear you'll get me if something happens, okay? Like anything at all."Jay simply nodded, silently promising Chip she would do just that. Another few seconds of hesitation passed before Chip left the room, going to his own to get a new change of clothes and hopefully as much sleep as he could. Jay stayed the rest of the night sitting on a chair next to Gillion's bed, every now and then using some healing magic in hopes to get Gillion to wake up faster. She hadn't shown it much, but she was just as anxious for her triton friend as Chip, unable to get any sleep even if she tried to.

Chip slowly woke up to continuous knocking, being fully woken up by Jay shouting from the other side of the door. "Chip! You seriously still asleep?" Chip groaned, almost forgetting what had happened just a few hours ago. The second his brain reminded him, Chip shot up, stumbling out of bed and opening his door seeing the door across the hall being wide open with a very familiar form sitting up, attempting to stand. Chip rushed past Jay when he saw this, stopping in front of Gillion and glaring down at him.
"What the hell are you doing, idiot?! Why are you sitting up! Lay back down! Why did Jay let you move- Why did you let him move this soon-" Chip's rambling was cut off by Gillion speaking up.

"C-Chip, please...I am fine. I have rested for far too long, I-I do not want to be a hinderance to both you and Jay as we explore this island more-" As Gillion attempted to stand, he groaned, falling back onto the bed and holding his stomach, sighing tiredly. Jay rushed over next to Gillion, gently encouraging the triton to lay back down, which he did.

"Don't be an idiot, Gill. You're not gonna be a hinderance to anyone. You need to rest...I may have healed you with magic but you still have a physical wound. It needs to heal... And to be redressed..." She sighed tiredly, seeing that the bandage she had applied last night was stained already. Gillion glanced down and frowned at the bloodied bandage, looking up at the two sheepishly.

"I...apologise-"

"Don't apologise. About anything. You're...fine. It's fine. Just...Lemme get the bandages and get some new ones on there, yeah?" As Jay finished speaking, she yawned, groaning quietly afterwards. Chip chuckled and shook his head.

"Why'd I get saddled with a crew who suck at looking after themselves- Jay go to bed. I'll fix up Gill." Jay smiled softly, nodding as a quiet thanks, exhaustion having washed over her the second morning had made it's presence known to her. She passed the bandages to Chip, looking to Gillion and smiling softly at him before leaving the two alone. "Okay, if you try and sit up a tiny bit, carefully, I'll get some water and cloth to clean the wound before wrapping it again, deal?" Gillion simply nodded, doing as Chip said as he got everything together, then sitting down in front of Gillion, carefully unwrapping the bandage around his stomach, frowning when he saw the wound. Gillion saw this and spoke up in hopes to stop Chip from staring at the wound.

"Chip..? I can dress my wound if you are uncomfortable or-"

"N-No! No, no...I'm not uncomfortable. It's fine I just...Last night sucked...a lot." Gillion chuckled quietly, nodding slowly.

"I...agree, last night definitely wasn't one of my favoured nights I have experience in my time on the oversea.." Chip seemed to tense up, his eyes going wide.

"O-Oh! Y-Yeah, no I...I'm sure it was definitely worse for you, I didn't mean it like- I just- U-Uh,, I didn't mean it as in my night was worse than yours o-or-" Gillion snickered, shaking his head.

"It's fine, Chip. I was teasing. Objectively, last night was terrible..." Chip sighed, nodding slowly in agreement as he started to clean Gillion's wound, stopping whenever he felt the triton flinch, muttering small apologies every time. After a minute or two, Chip had managed to successfully wrap up Gillion's stomach, tilting his head and smirking. He had done a surprisingly good job, in his opinion. He would definitely not show Jay, just in case his opinion was so very wrong. Gillion looked down, then looked to Chip who was still admiring his dressing work. "Thank you, Chip. I appreciate your help..." Chip nodded, putting away everything he had used and crossing his arms.

"Well yeah, I did a great job, holy shit. I don't know anything about medicine stuff, y'know? Y'definitely wouldn't think that with that dressing. Damn. I'm just so talented." Gillion hummed softly, smiling fondly at Chip's exaggerations. After a few seconds, Gillion's fond smile faded, instead being replaced with a small frown as he spoke up.

"Chip...may I say something..?" Chip's lighthearted and joking front immediately dropped at Gillion's suddenly serious tone, looking at him and raising a brow slightly, showing he was listening. "I-I...I wanted to apologise. I know Jay had said not to earlier, but I feel like I need to. I...You were right. Last night, what you were saying. I should've been more careful...I hate that I put you through such a stressful time last night with my recklessness. I can only imagine how frightening it must've been..." Gillion trailed off, allowing Chip to speak. When he was met with silence, he continued, "I-I admittedly do not remember much...But I do remember something you said, about not wanting to lose anyone else..." He trailed off again, watching Chip's face as he continued, "I, Gillion Tidestrider, give you my word, on my honour, that I will no longer rush into any fights without consulting both you and Jay. I will ensure you do not lose anyone else, Chip..."

Chip wasn't sure how to respond. He sat there for a few seconds, just staring at Gillion before finally finding words. "I-I...thanks, Gill...I just... I didn't mean to guilt trip your or anything with that, y'know- I...I was just scared, I guess. I thought you were gonna die and...well I didn't particularly enjoy that situation..." Chip chuckled awkwardly, remembering just how bad he was at feelsy conversations. Gillion smiled softly before pulling Chip into a hug. The brunette paused, tense for a second before sighing and returning the embrace, rolling his eyes. He was of course mindful of Gillion's stomach, which Gillion was definitely thankful for, his thankfulness being shown when Chip felt a small kiss being pressed against his temple.

Jay woke up after a few more hours of sleep, thankful she was able to get more or less a couple of hours of peaceful sleep. She let out a small yawn, sitting up and looking outside of the window in her room, seeing it was nearing midday. She stretched before heading over and opening the door to her room, shutting it behind her before quietly knocking on the door to Gillion's room. When there was no answer, she felt herself grow anxious, carefully and quietly opening the door only to see both Chip and Gillion asleep. Gillion was still sitting up slightly, still laying in bed. Chip had fallen asleep next to him, resting his head on his shoulder, basically cuddled up next to him. Jay stared at this for a second, then rolling her eyes at the two before spotting Pretzel in her globe which was on a dressing table. She looked to the two and then went over, picking up Pretzel's globe, attaching it to her belt and writing a small 'Took Pretzel out in the town while you and Chip were cuddling. We got grossed out. -Jay' note before leaving.

As she left, she looked down at her new frogtopus companion, smirking. "You're absolutely welcome from freeing you from such a disgustingly sweet example of PDA. Lets go try and find some snacks for you." To which Pretzel, of course, twirled around excitedly in her globe.
