"they captured it as a trophy and brought it inside" gabrielle answers making mr matthews nod

"that night, the greek soldiers crawled out of the horse and defeated troy. what have we learned here ?" mr matthews questions making lucas raises his hand. "mr friar"

"don't make assumptions based on what you see ?" lucas answers

"riley, listen, i'm sorry i made an example of you. so here's a gift for you" mr matthews holds our a small box

"ooh— no! i want to— no! pretty ribbon— no !" riley argues with herself

"i'll take my chances with that, sir" lucas speaks up making mr matthews hand it off to him.

"no, lucas" riley turns to him as gabrielle sits back and watches. "you have to assume it was no good because the first one was no good" riley turns back to her father "aren't you all proud of me, dad ?" she smiles

"no !" mr matthews states making her smile drop

"get out of detention free" lucas reads off the card

"ooh, i could use one of those. gimme that and i won't call you 'ranger rick' all week" maya convinces

"here you go" lucas hands it to her with a slight smile

"thanks, ranger roy" maya turns away admiring the card in hand

"lemme guess, ranger roy is filling in for ranger rick ?" lucas questions

"all week, and now... you" maya turns to mr matthews

"oh, is something gonna happen to me ?" mr matthews holds back his smile

"yes, it is" maya stands up and approaches the table. "a d-d-d-d, a d-d-d-d" maya sings while trying to stand on top of the desk. "a d-d-d-detention. but not today. boom !" maya gets mr matthews face while still on his desk

"read the card" mr matthews smirks

"huh ?" maya's facade drops

"card" mr matthews repeats himself

"say 'get out of detention free' then give worthless card to maya then watch her dance on my desk'." maya reads with a pout before returning to her desk.

"never assume. look more deeply. just because something is wrapped up all pretty, doesn't always mean it is" mr matthews announces

that's when gabrielle's phone beeps and she hides it but reads the message on her phone as her face falls from interest to sadness. everyone watches the sad girl as she throws her phone into her bag.

maya then turns back to lucas, "you were in on this !" she glares

"i'm ranger roy and i'll be here all week" lucas smiles before tipping his imaginary hat making maya's eye twitch before she shudders, that sounds like an evil laugh, while turning away.
