GABRIELLE sat drawing doodles on her desk as mr matthews stood in the front of the classroom with a present in hand. "ancient greece-" he gets cut off
"what that? what that-that ?" riley stutters
"what thi-this ?" mr matthews mimics as he points to the present. "this is a present" he smiles
"is it for me ?" riley asks with a huge smile on her face as it gleams of hope
"what's your game, matthews ?" maya squints her eyes as she stares at the teacher
"game? i mean no game" mr matthews pauses
"you really think a classroom full of students is going to fall for this 'no game' present" gabrielle scoffs as mr matthews shrugs.
"let's see, shall we? who here wants this present" mr matthews asks making all the students raise their hands except maya and gabrielle— who is looking around.
"oh, maya, what? you assume by playing hard to get, i'm gonna give it to you ?" mr matthews chuckles as maya looks at him dumbfounded.
"well, yes. that's one of the many arrows in my quiver" maya confesses drop the strain of hair she was twiddling with her fingers.
farkle noticeably shudders, "medieval talk— what are you doing to me, woman ?" farkle question making maya look at him with a grossed out look.
"riley" mr matthews chooses as he sets the present down on her desk
"yay !" riley exclaims as she opens the box, " 'the trojan horse' ?" riley frowns as she pulls a mini-chalk board.
"surprise" mr matthews smiles
"liar !" gabrielle exclaims, slamming her hands on the desk catching everyone's attention even a frowning mr matthews. gabrielle lightly chuckles as she slowly sits back down "okay that was maybe a little too irrational."
"this isn't a present" riley huffs "this is one of your life lessons wrapped up in a class lesson wrapped up in a box of nothing" riley argues
"how you doing, honey ?" maya questions
"i'm all worked up" riley admits
"i know" maya nods as riley puts back the frame into the box
"you assumed because it was all neat and pretty that something good was inside" mr matthews starts off "ancient troy was protected by walls. the greeks couldn't get in, so they built a big wooden horse and left it behind. what do you think the trojans did ?" mr matthews looks around
