Chapter 57

Yeona's POV

We've retreated to the kitchen, which has less people bustling about than the living room does. I'll admit, I'm still slightly nervous about meeting new people, but the fact that I've seen them on screen before and that they're obviously nice people is helping a bit.

"So, welcome to the NCT's-partners-squad, I guess," Chaemin announces, then visibly cringes at her own words. "Can we come up with a new name, please?"

Chunmei nods. "Alright, here we go, brainstorming. Let's put our thinking caps on... Okay no, we're not in Kindergarten. Let's ignore that I said that and come up with a group name for the three of us, alright?"

"Sure," I agree. Internally, I'm both freaking out over talking to a new person while also congratulating myself for actually saying something, but nobody needs to know that.

"Uh... Girls on crack? Wait no, that makes us sound weird-"
"Girlfriends of guys on crack? Wait no, that makes NCT sound weird-"
"Even though they are weird?"
"That's true. Hm... How about..."
"Trio of Tea Spillers?"
"Where did that come from, Chunmei-"
"Ignore I said that too."

"Our creativity really must have been influenced by our boyfriends," Chunmei remarks very seriously. We pause our brainstorming to laugh, then continue.

"NST? Neo Sane Technology? Since you know, the guys are Neo Crackhead Technology?"
"I like that!"
"Wait, isn't NST a real thing though?"
"Oh, right, whoops. Thank goodness Yeona is sane for now."

"Okay then... MinMeiNa?"
"I like that too... but it's going to get way too long one day-"
"Exactly! I can barely recite the NCT fanchant in the first place, and I don't know how I'd survive with another one of the same length."
"Alright no, we need a different one."

"Something like 'Protecting The Boys from the Scary Fans Squad'?"
"Ooo, that's good, but sort of long too..."
"Yeah, my dying braincells cannot handle that."

"Sasaeng Repellent Squad?"
"Oh wait, the idea of getting rid of sasaengs is cool..."
"We need to invent a real Sasaeng Repellent one day."
"Of course, we'll do that for sure."

Finally, after a minute or so of brainstorming, Chaemin comes up with the perfect name for our little trio. "Sasaeng Exterminators."

"To the world, we are Sasaeng Exterminators?" I randomly say, doing the gesture that our boyfriends do. I definitely did it wrong, but Chaemin and Chunmei are so nice that they don't even care and laugh along at my joke.

"Sasaeng Exterminators. Okay, that's the one," Chaemin announces. "We're making sasaengs sound like pests... Oh wait, never mind, they are."

Chunmei laughs and then pulls her phone out. "Now that we have a group name, can we make a group chat just for the three of us? You know, where we gossip and spill tea on the members?"

"Yeah, sure," Chaemin responds. I also agree. In fact, the group chat sounds like a really good place for me to get to know Chaemin and Chunmei better without having to be an awkward mess standing in front of them.

For a moment, I struggle to think of something to say, then ask, "So this is just the growing group chat that gets larger every time we think of someone to add to the gossip group?"

"Yes, exactly," Chunmei confirms, sending an encouraging smile in my direction. "Initiation is to aid NCT in exterminating a sasaeng at least once... Or just be close to them in general and be someone we trust. That works too."

Without even thinking, I make a random comment. "One day there's going to be like 23 of us or something, and then we're going to be the power squad. No sasaeng will get past us." Wow, I'm getting more comfortable with them already.

"Exactly!" Chaemin exclaims. Then she adds, "I would say that we could ask SM to debut us as NCT F or something, but then I realized that we're not good enough at performing."

"Nah, let's not put it that way. We'll just say that we're too busy with our jobs as Sasaeng Exterminators and growing business of Sasaeng Repellent," Chunmei corrects. I nod along, a small smile on my face.

I think I'm going to get along with them just fine.
