To my first friend

We met at such a tender age
I had a blonde Bob and an attitude with rage
You were calm and poise and knew what to say
You took me in as if I was a stray

You walked me through years holding my hand
Made sure to laugh when my jokes didn't land
And when we began to make other friends
I noticed I only got in on your tail ends

As our circle grew and stretched
You kept your arms outstretched
Making sure our friendship stayed strong
It's a shame it didn't stay like that for long

You began talking with new people
I was a pigeon, you were an eagle
Eventually you let down your arms
But in a way that would slowly burn

You didn't want to let go and I wish you did
The toxicity that came was too much for a kid
You whispered words about me in others ears
Oh your words that sent me home in tears

You made an eight year old feel crazy
Your actions weren't at all lazy
They were methodical and ruthless
Your aim was to make me feel useless

I was left out of events
Made to sit on a separate bench
I had friends that didn't like me
a common occurrence that would be

If you asked her now about how we ended
She wouldn't say all those years we pretended
She'd say different schools hard to talk
Yet the distance was a five minute walk

So what I say to you friend one
After everything,you won
You broke my trust and heart
What you did was quite smart

I hope you matured over the years
I hope you no longer exploit people's fears
Because even though you were a child
I doubt we could ever reconcile
