My good friend, John, is so sad today.
'Tis six years since Maxine passed away.
She was such a good wife.
They'd had a happy life.
He tried to save her on that May day.
John had so bravely fought off pythons.
He had dammed floodwaters with his sons
But she collapsed from a run
Where he'd grown palms to shade the sun.
He found her near the water fountains.
What an awful shock it was for him
But after six years those thoughts are dim
Though he will never forget
The day they first met.
Back then he was surprisingly trim.
