Second period was literal hell. We didn't even do any introduction stuff like normal teachers do on the first day. No, this teacher just pulled up a power point, told us to pull out a piece of paper and then started explaining stuff about World War 1. Then, she started telling us to take notes. I mean, I literally have three pages of notes in my notebook now. Mrs. Breslow? Definitely not a favourite teacher. I swear she's like 53 years old and she yelled at this kid in my class when he sneezed. I mean, seriously? How strict can you get?

Anyway, I was going to meet up with Avery in our regular spot that we usually sat at during lunch period. So far I haven't run into any transfer students that have wanted to boss me around and pick on me. I haven't been bossed around once today which, in my opinion, I think is a new record. I saw Avery down the hallway and smiled once I saw her. She was alone (gladly). As soon as she saw me, she jogged up to me.

"How was history?" She asked with a big smile on her face. I groaned loudly and rolled my eyes as my response, saying nothing. She knew exactly what that meant. "Ohh bad teacher?" She asked with a sad look on her face. I nodded and leaned my head on her shoulder, sighing slightly. Avery chuckled and patted my back. "Come on, I've got some money so I was planning on buying us both lunch today." She said and I leaned up off her shoulder.

"Can we go somewhere instead of getting cafeteria food?" I asked her, cringing at the thought of eating at the cafeteria. She laughed slightly.

"Duh. You think I'm gonna eat that garbage? Come on." She laughed and grabbed my arm, pulling me to my locker so I could get my coat.

We were allowed to leave school grounds at lunch and there were a few restaurants around. Not really restaurants, but fast food places. Like Subway, McDonald's, Tim Horton's, and some pizza places as well. We'd probably end up getting pizza or Tim Horton's since it's cold out and coffee would really do us some justice right now. We pulled on our coats, hats and gloves and started to head out of the school, only to find that it was still snowing out.

I sighed and looked up at white sky. "Hasn't it snowed enough?" I mumbled to myself. Apparently Avery heard me.

"Guess not." Avery chuckled. "C'mon." She chuckled and we started to walk down the snow covered sidewalks.

I looked ahead of me and groaned slightly. We were going to walk past the Smoker's Pit. All the smokers from my school came here at lunch, before school, after school, whatever to smoke. It was just the corner at the end of the street; but we called it the pit. I didn't mind that people smoked. That didn't bother me at all. It was just the smell bothered me sometimes. There were a lot of people down there too right now. I looked down at the ground as we got closer to the Smoker's Pit. Avery could tell I was getting uncomfortable.

"Just hold your breath. I know you don't like it." She whispered to me as we began to walk by.

I shook my head. I was about to speak but then we walked by them. They were all talking about random stuff. Some of them were glaring at us as we walked by and I found myself beginning to walk faster. I sighed as we got to the other side of the street. It's not that I had to hold my breath. I just didn't like the smell.

"I don't need to hold my breath, Ave. But thanks anyway." I looked over at her and smiled. I looked over my shoulder at the smokers and sighed in relief as we were past them and on the other side of the street, out of their hearing distance. "Why do they all seem so rude?" I asked Avery, my gaze falling to the ground as I walked.

She shrugged. "Because that's just who they are. They only care about themselves. They care about how they look, looking cool, and being cool. That's all. They don't care about other people's feelings." She answered. I looked up at her and noticed the look on her face. She looked completely emotionless. She was looking straight ahead and not removing her gaze from there either. She was deep in thought about something... But I didn't want to interrupt her. She looked over at me and smiled. "Anyway, I need some coffee. I feel like I'm gonna explode if I don't get some coffee." Avery groaned, skipping ahead of me a bit.
