(Leo)he ran in between the trees, chasing Harvey. he could barely see anything in the dark and dim forest so he listens to the sound of his feet touching the leaves on the ground."Stop or I'll shot you." he said as his tired lungs weren't able to breathe anymore. "you can't shot me if you don't see me, detective..." Harvey's voice echoed in between the tall trees. Leo was breathing heavily and looking around; all he saw were trees and shadows, so many shadows that he couldn't tell if they were real or hallucinations."you fucking pussy...come out and show yourself." said Leo. he tried to irritate Harvey's courage. "I'm not scared of dying." he said as he came closer to Leo.Leo's plan work; Harvey way more stupid the what he thought. "I'm not scared of...dying." repeated Harvey as he stood in front of Leo's gun. Leo felt so much anger against this man; not because he was a killer, because he couldn't understand why Cassie loved him. what was so special about this psychopath?the fear that he caused? or the lives he took? so he pushed the gun into his chest harder. "did you wanna hurt her?" his hands were shaking. "did you wanna hurt Cassie?"Harvey pulled his eyebrows together and smirked. "so you envy me, detective?" there are no words to explain how humiliated Leo felt at that moment. the woman he loved, chose this killer that was standing in front of a gun with so much confidence and laughing at him. he couldn't tolerate it anymore. how blind could Cassie be not to see what was right under her nose? and how in love could she be to escape with the killer she was dying to find and send to prison? how much had madness dragged Cassie away from herself that she ignored what was right and wrong?as these thoughts were floating in Leo's head, his rage and anger toward this man was like a fire that could burn miles of jungles. "you psychopath" he said as he dragged his arm and lied him down on the floor aggressively. no matter how much Harvey was hurting he kept laughing. "Detective you are not just envious...you are so fucking angry...chill man" he said. as the words came out of his mouth, Leo's will to hurt this bastard was taking over his whole state of mind. he handcuffed Harvey and kept him laid down on the ground. he called Sentia. "stay still" he said looking at Harvey. "Listen to me carefully and do exactly what I say..." he said."what's going on detective?" she said worriedly."take Cassie and go...I have to do something...""what the uck detective?""Listen to me...if she questioned or anything...in the back seat there is a bag...use one of the injectors..."Leo...Leo...what the fuck man ....don't do anything crazy...Leo..."and he hunged up the phone. "oh...what do you wanna do, Leo?" he said. "lame name by the way." and grinned.Leo was breathing heavily because he was risking everything over his anger but the way he looked at Harvey, was scary. he had planned everything in his head; it made sense. "you...fucking...bastard." he said as the rage showed itself in the shaky hands. "shut up bastard."Harvey continued hysterically laughing. "shut up" yelled Leo. "shut up" he yelled louder. "shut the fuck up"birds flew away as the terrifying sound of the gunshot filled the empty forest.one week later(cassie)she walked out of the train station as the golden sun was shining right above her head, the small town air filled up her lungs and the wind caressed her skin.she looked at the old sign that was hunged up across the highway; "Damburton". although the color was really faded you could still tell what was written."This is was a good place for a fresh new start." she thought as she stood beside the highway with her old, nearly old bad by her side. the sun brought so much shineonto the gentle waves of the oceans. she could see the town a little further from the highway, beside the sore. her ears could finally rest from the noisy chaos back in NY. this Californian small town was her hope for some peace. as the train left the station behind Cassie, a strong wind messed up her hair."Hey...look whose here." a small cute car stopped in front of Cassie. "Come here...I missed you girl" shouted denis as he opened the car's door and jumped out into Cassie's arms. His fluffy brown hair was in Cassie's face and his bright brown eyes were shining under the sunlight. the freckles on his face were more visible and cuter.Denis was Cassie's friend back in college in NY. he was a bright and friendly person; always bringing joy and sunlight into every room he entered, always healing people's hearts, always bringing so much warmth to Cassie's cold soul after she ran away from Texas. Denis left NY and never completed college after his father passed away he was so hurt and changed. it was nice to see him so joyful and alive again; although the shine in his eyes wouldn't hide the pain.Cassie squeezed him harder and pushed him into her chest. "boy...I missed you." as they slowly loosened their hug and got on the car, Cassie throw her bag in the back seat."so...what did you do in NY? after I left..." he asked with so much enthusiasm."let's consume you never asked this question." Cassie said as the joy of meeting her friend left her face. "I'm never looking back...""you had same the same thing...when you came to NY" Deniz pulled his eyebrows together and shrugged his shoulders as he was driving down the quiet highway, beside the ocean. "I'm always running away from everything...right?" Cassie sighed as she opened her window and filled her lungs with the fresh smell of the ocean "I never fight back."she took out a cigarette to light it ou. "oh for god sake..." laughed Denis. "the cigarette is telling me whatever that happened is...really fucked up"they both laughed as they arrived at the tawn and went drove toward Denis's house. this was like an American dream;the birds singing on the giant trees that had covered the empty streets and the teenager cycling down the road. although they were in the town, the mesmerizing scent of the ocean was still in the air. "you can go to the town center for anything you need... that's where our cafe is" said Danis as he had his eyes on the road. "our cafe?" asked cassie surprisingly. "yeah, you are gonna be my roommate but you said you also needed a job right? we will work at my cafe together."Cassie knew how lucky she was to have a friend like him; he sorted out everything for her, he would always make life easier and more peaceful for Cassie, removing the obstacles on her way and supporting her through everything. "how did you survive in NY without me girl?" he punched Cassie's arm as he giggled. "I...actually...didn't..." cassie smiles as her exaggerated face gestures fade away. "here...this is the house..." Denis stopped on a two-floor, kind of small but beautiful house's door. as they walked toward the door, Cassie looked at the beautiful garden, colorful flowers and green leaves covering the walls and the ground; everything was so natural and alive.the sunshine barely made its way through the giant trees but it was still Carassing Cassie's face with the gentle warmth. "make yourself at home."said Denis and threw his keys on the kitchen counter. it was a dim and small kitchen but yet cozy. the living room was decorated with fun furniture; two comfortable couchesone orange and the other gray, designed with colorful blankets and cushions, walls were full of pictures of denis and his father, big windows that let allthe sunshine in, a small dining table designed with some colorful flowers, a TV in front of the couches and Denis's famous old guitar beside the TV."Wanna see your room?" denis shouted from upstairs. as Cassie was going up the stairs excitedly, she observed the dark and narrow hallway that led into three doors."This is my bedroom..." Denis shows the room on his left. "this is the guest bathroom... each room has...it's...individual...bathroom...classy right?" his smirk turned into a chuckle.as he slowly went toward the door on the right, "I hope she likes it...I hope she likes it...I hope she likes it..." he whispered under his breaths. "here we go" he opened the door.Cassie throw her bag on the floor and observed the room; so Cassie styled, everything was simple, dark-colored wooden furniture and dark sheets on her bed. Cassie turned back to face Denis to thank him but she couldn't hold back her excitement and she jumped into his arms. "thank you some much Denis...I can't survive without you""Ok...enough of the emotional stuff, we have a lot of work to do..." he continued as he walked down the stair fast and excitedly. "make yourself at home...rest...and we'll go to the cafe tomorrow morning...are you hungry?" he continued as he walked around the kitchen searching for something to eat. "No" Cassie shouted from upstairs.she sat on her bed and looked around the room once again. she felt like she was so cold and harsh compared to the gentle and warm spirit of this town.a few hours later, Cassie felt someone gently touching her shoulder. "come on it's near the sunset...I never stay home when the sun is setting...we need to do something cool"Cassie slowly crawled out of the bed and stretched her muscles. as she looked at herself in the mirror "I should put on something nice" she thought as she ran her hands through her hair. "just wait for me downstairs...I'll be there" she said and a loud yawn followed her word up. the tiredness of the long round hadn't left her body.she looked through her stuff to find something nice other than black jeans hoodies and as Denis would always say "detective shirts." she found a black dress.this was "The short black dress". probably the only dress she had; anyways she put it on. a short satin and really simpy dress, hanging from her thin shoulders; it was obvious that she had lost a few pounds. she looked at herself in the mirror once again; she wasn't steal feeling like herself; she searched her bag and finally, she found it."the red lipstick" Jully used to call it because she never wore it unless she was really happy. she giggled as the memories rushed back into her mind.Jully...Jully reminded her of that awful scene she closed her eyes as if the awful picture would leave her mind. as she looked in the mirror she threw the lipstick back in her bag and she rushed out of the room.(unknown pov)I stopped few meters away from the house. I turned on the lights of my car so they wouldn't see through the windows. I took a sip of my coffee as Cassie walked out of thehouse with her friend a slimy brunette boy. Cassie looked different; she was wearing a dress and she looked kind of joyful. some kind of light in her eyes...anyways.I followed them into the main street in town as they drove toward the town center."what are you doing here Cassie Davis? why did you run from NY? so you know where Harvey is?" I murmured under my breath.Harvey was probably stupid enough to contact you first; if he was still alive. I sighed as I watched them park in front of a cafe and exit the car as their giggles and joke obviously continued. this boy pulled a bunch of keys out of his pocket and opened the place.I bent my head to see the name of the place and immediately searched online; Denis Jones Andreson owned the place. he might have been the guy beside Cass.I watched them as he thought Cassie how things worked there; Cassie looked like another person beside him, she was not the girl in NY...she was hiding that girl.she was hiding everything; her feelings and her past. these hidden emotions chained her down to earth as if she was a bird that couldn't fly or a flower that couldn't blossom.she was laughing at his jokes but deep down in her eyes, you could see how she was running from everything and how she fought herself. as I get carried away watching Cassie and analyzing her status, she walked toward the windows of the coffee shop. she rushed out of the door, as I drove away.I deeply hoped she hadn't seen me or this was going to get me in so much trouble. (Cassie)they arrived at the coffee shop. "I didn't open the cafe today...because...well...I had a special guest...but...I'm teaching you everything. tomorrow we start..yeah"Denis was giggling and talking about the cafe excitedly as he opened the door lock. Denis's voice faded in the background as Cassie felt like somebody followed them all the way, and the car stopped right in front of the cafe. who the fuck is this? she looked back at the car as she tried to hide her fear from Denis. someone from NY? someone from texas?how did they find her already? her heart started beating faster as she tried to quiet down her anxiety by laughing at Denis's jokes."you are just fucking paranoid," she thought and she turned back to Denis who was explaining her tasks. but she couldn't stop thinking about the car, she turned back and looked out of the window; her paranoia rushing her toward the street as the car drives off."Girl...Cass...come on...what's up...are you fine?" he takes her hands and slowly takes her inside. Cassie was thinking about...a lot of things.her mind was going from NY to Texas and then back to NY and then again texas; like a ball. Denis slowly pulled a chair and forced Cassie to sit there. "tell...me everything girl." said Danis as the light in his eyes faded into worry and the joyful tone turned serious.Cassie sighed and nodded agreeing to tell him everything. "I'm going to need a cigarette for this" she gestured to the pack of cigarettes in her leather jacket's pocket.Denis smiled satisfied that he had convinced Cass to get this heavy rock out of her chest. he lighted a cigarette and handed it to Cassie as he pulled a chair and sat in front of her. "I'm listening," he said with a soft tone, gently caressing her legs.
