Midnight Walk ~ Ch42

Start from the beginning

I could see things that I hadn't seen from my window in the hotel room such as the small clearing on the hill a few roads down from the hotel beside a park. It seemed like it would be a lovely place to stare up at the stars. Times like this I had to remind myself that I couldn't do what I wanted here. I must always be watched with caution because Jujustu sorcerers did not trust me.

While I was up here, I couldn't help but become encased by my thoughts. I thought back to today, the moment Satoru seemed as though he would've kissed me. I knew it meant nothing... even in that moment I knew...Yet my body couldn't help but become flustered. From the day I met Satoru, I knew he was a tease...a flirt. I knew he loved playing with feelings yet my body seemed to forget that fact in that exact moment.

My body was touch-starved. It was hungry. Of course I had been pleasured by Sukuna twice now since my awakening in this era but even so, both times were not my physical body but rather my mind and soul. My body had only felt kisses and pecks, nothing more and nothing less. Now even the slightest action could have me flustered because my body craved more. And I couldn't even give it more because Sukuna was not in his original body and it may be a very long time until he actually will be.

I shivered as the wind picked up, wrapping my arms around my waist as I exhaled slowly. A slight mist came from my mouth as I breathed out, assencuating how cold it truly was. It wasn't cold just a moment ago and within another few moments, my fingers felt like ice. What was going on? Why was it getting increasingly cold? I knew this wasn't normal, especially for Tokyo during the peak of summer.

After seeing my fingers become blue, I decided that my walk was about through with. Although wanting to stay here just for a few minutes longer, I forced myself to turn around as my fingers continued to become increasingly numb. The moment I turned around, I noticed that the door that I remember leaving open was now frosted shut. This wasn't normal.

Almost to prove my point, a dark presence began making it's presence known on the rooftop. It was slithering around the wall infront of me, going so fast I could only see flashes of black and blue. I gulped the moment it stopped moving to scare me, now moving closer in order to attack me. It came out of the shadows slowly, revealing it's frosted claws and white eyes to me without hesitantion. It was a curse.

My heart began beating loudly, threatening to come out of my chest as I remembered that I had left my fan in the hotel room and that my cursed technique did not work on cursed spirits. Backing away from the spirit seemed to have made it excited, coming even closer with a sinister smile. A tear threatened to fall from my eye as I wondered how I could get out of this alive. The spirit had successfully cut off my only escape from the rooftop which was undoubtedly to high to jump off.

With shaking lips, I let out a whimper as the creature let out a growl towards me. I began looking side to side, trying to search for another exit that I might have missed before but my sudden movements seemed to make the spirit angry. It decided to wait no longer, not in the mood to play with it's food anymore. So with a snarl, the frosted spirit lunged towards me with it's icy claws aimed at my chest.

I screamed, ducking down and holding my hands above my face protectively. I expected to die in that moment, not seeing another way out alive. But unexpectedly I noticed something. It all happened in a flash, so fast that I almost didn't notice.
It was my bracelet. the one given to me by Satoru. It flashed brightly in alarm before turning into melted gold, slithering down my arm to create a golden puddle beneath me.

Within the next second, fog covered the floor of the roof and a glowing white deer came to life from the depths of this fog. The icy creature backed away from the new arrival, snarling at the deer in offense.  The deer didn't wait for it to make it's move, charging at the cursed spirit with full force and swiping through it with sheer power. I gasped as the cursed spirit imploded with a loud screech.

I was still huddled against the wall behind me as I watched the deer turn it's head back to me, eyes gold and glowing. It's antlers were white with cherry blossoms growing on the tips. Gold streaks were running down it's whitw back and it radiated an aura of calmness, letting me know it would not harm me.

Only now I realised the deer was slightly see-through, which made me realise

Only now I realised the deer was slightly see-through, which made me realise...
"Are you a cursed spirt?" I asked it, looking up at it with curious eyes. In response, the deer lowered it's head mimicking a nod.

"T-Thank you for saving me." I stuttered out, still trying to get a hold of my nerves. Slowly but surely, the deer's glow began fading so the creature took this chance to bow to me before dissapearing completely. The fog began dissipating and the ice left behind by the hostile cursed spirit along with it. Within a few moments I was left alone on the rooftop with only my braclet sprawled out on the floor a few feet away from me.

I walked forwards towards the braclet, picking it up from the ground catiously. I noticed that the glowing sigil was no longer glowing as brightly, leaving the piece of gold to almost look like an ordinary bracelet. I used to once believe that that was what it actually was until today proved otherwise.

Did Satoru give me this bracelet-or spirit to protect me or watch me?
